The author looks at some of the major events which took place in Africa in the early years of independence including challenges to statehood and nationhood which threatened the existence of some countries. He also looks at the struggle for independence in some of the countries which were among the last to win their freedom, and at some of the causes of conflict in a number of countries across the continent which can be traced to the wrong foundation laid in the sixties for the new African nations. Subjects covered include the Nigerian civil war which almost destroyed the Nigerian federation when the Eastern Region seceded in 1967 and established the independent Republic of Biafra, and which still haunts Nigeria today.

This book comes, first of all, as the answer to the yearning for more written literature on the identity of the Igbo people of the southeast of Nigeria. The early chapters deal with their geographical and historical identity. Then it holds a searchlight on the Igbo worldview: their sociocultural values and traditions, their religious concepts the nature and character of the supreme being; their family agnates, relationships, and the structure and elements of social control dynamics, which are unknown to the Western world. The showcase also discusses some very powerful elements and traditions that give the Igbo their peculiar identity: the kola nut tradition, Igbo name, and food culture. This book is also a road map of the Igbo experience in the context of Nigerian histopolitical developments from 1914 to 1976: the crises, the pogrom, and the Biafran phenomenon, and the Ikemba Saga. Other hallmarks of this book include the profile of great personages: Igbo greatest heroes past and present, the icons of Igbo identity on both national and international scenes. And finally, it concludes with the roll call: an amazing catalog of more than four thousand Igbo traditional names.

The Eucharist As Orik Ns written by Damian Ọnwụegbuchulam Eze and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Catholic Church categories.

In this book the author, relying on the research he carried out in Igboland, Nigeria, leads us to see the action of God's grace already active in the Igbo religious culture called Omenala Ndigbo before the coming of Christian missionaries and how these cultural values have prepared the people to receive the Gospel. But, as he points out, these cultural values on which the Christian message ought to have been built from the beginning were grossly misunderstood and neglected. The Igbo people are now mainly Christians. But because the Gospel has not yet become their culture, some of them have double allegiance to the doctrines of the Church and to the practices of Omenala Ndigbo. The author opines that to build the Catholic Church in Igboland on a solid foundation, the Eucharist must take the central place - since the Eucharist makes the Church and is the source and summit of the life of the Church. Thus the work, which uses the analytical and hermeneutical method known as inculturation, is on Eucharistic Ecclesiology from an Igbo perspective and will be useful for the Church, both at the local and universal levels for self-understanding and renewal, ecumenism, dialogue and mission.

The legend of The Lost Tribes of Israel remained for scholars, historians, archeologists, anthropologists and Hebraists a fascinating topic for millennia. When Israel faced an imperial conquest in the hands of the Assyrian empire in 722 B.C. as earlier warned by prophets Isaiah and Hosea, the nation also went on exile and into what seemed oblivion. A people who for penalty of apostasy became a dispersed people across the globe for nearly three thousand years creating a puzzle of identity and location for so long has suddenly began to emerge from the shadows of time. The account of their journey and experiences over this period had largely remained conjectures as they assimilated amongst foreign cultures. The Igbo, sojourned in the two sides of lower Niger, one of Africas great rivers second only to the Nile and like other exiled tribes of Israel was relatively unknown to those who never had any contacts with them. The era of trans-Atlantic forced migrations and European colonization opened this connection. The exposition of a peoples beliefs, behavior, attitudes and values within religious, cultural and political context had only affirmed their origin and identity.
