This volume contains the proceedings of the Conference on Mathematics and its Applications-2014, held from November 14-17, 2014, at Kuwait University, Safat, Kuwait. Papers contained in this volume cover various topics in pure and applied mathematics ranging from an introductory study of quotients and homomorphisms of C-systems, also known as contextual pre-categories, to the most important consequences of the so-called Fokas method. Also covered are multidisciplinary topics such as new structural and spectral matricial results, acousto-electromagnetic tomography method, a recent hybrid imaging technique, some numerical aspects of sonic-boom minimization, PDE eigenvalue problems, von Neumann entropy in graph theory, the relative entropy method for hyperbolic systems, conductances on grids, inverse problems in magnetohydrodynamics, location and size estimation of small rigid bodies using elastic far-fields, and the space-time fractional Schrödinger equation, just to cite a few. A Panorama Of Hungarian Mathematics In The Twentieth Century I written by Janos Horvath and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-28 with Mathematics categories.

A glorious period of Hungarian mathematics started in 1900 when Lipót Fejér discovered the summability of Fourier series. This was followed by the discoveries of his disciples in Fourier analysis and in the theory of analytic functions. At the same time Frederic (Frigyes) Riesz created functional analysis and Alfred Haar gave the first example of wavelets. Later the topics investigated by Hungarian mathematicians broadened considerably, and included topology, operator theory, differential equations, probability, etc. The present volume, the first of two, presents some of the most remarkable results achieved in the twentieth century by Hungarians in analysis, geometry and stochastics. The book is accessible to anyone with a minimum knowledge of mathematics. It is supplemented with an essay on the history of Hungary in the twentieth century and biographies of those mathematicians who are no longer active. A list of all persons referred to in the chapters concludes the volume.

This volume contains the proceedings of the ICTS program Knot Theory and Its Applications (KTH-2013), held from December 10–20, 2013, at IISER Mohali, India. The meeting focused on the broad area of knot theory and its interaction with other disciplines of theoretical science. The program was divided into two parts. The first part was a week-long advanced school which consisted of minicourses. The second part was a discussion meeting that was meant to connect the school to the modern research areas. This volume consists of lecture notes on the topics of the advanced school, as well as surveys and research papers on current topics that connect the lecture notes with cutting-edge research in the broad area of knot theory.

his volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session Operator Algebras and Their Applications: A Tribute to Richard V. Kadison, held from January 10–11, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. Richard V. Kadison has been a towering figure in the study of operator algebras for more than 65 years. His research and leadership in the field have been fundamental in the development of the subject, and his influence continues to be felt though his work and the work of his many students, collaborators, and mentees. Among the topics addressed in this volume are the Kadison-Kaplanksy conjecture, classification of C∗-algebras, connections between operator spaces and parabolic induction, spectral flow, C∗-algebra actions, von Neumann algebras, and applications to mathematical physics.

This book features interviews of 38 eminent mathematicians and mathematical scientists who were invited to participate in the programs of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore. Originally published in its newsletter Imprints from 2003 to 2009, these interviews give a fascinating and insightful glimpse into the passion driving some of the most creative minds in modern research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, economics and engineering. The reader is drawn into a panorama of the past and present development of some of the ideas that have revolutionized modern science and mathematics. This book should be relevant to those who are interested in the history and psychology of ideas. It should provide motivation, inspiration and guidance to students who aspire to do research and to beginning researchers who are looking for career niches. For those who wish to be broadly educated, it is informative without delving into excessive technical details and is, at the same time, thought provoking enough to arouse their curiosity to learn more about the world around them.

Numerical Approximation Of Hyperbolic Systems Of Conservation Laws written by Edwige Godlewski and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-28 with Mathematics categories.

This monograph is devoted to the theory and approximation by finite volume methods of nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in one or two space variables. It follows directly a previous publication on hyperbolic systems of conservation laws by the same authors. Since the earlier work concentrated on the mathematical theory of multidimensional scalar conservation laws, this book will focus on systems and the theoretical aspects which are needed in the applications, such as the solution of the Riemann problem and further insights into more sophisticated problems, with special attention to the system of gas dynamics. This new edition includes more examples such as MHD and shallow water, with an insight on multiphase flows. Additionally, the text includes source terms and well-balanced/asymptotic preserving schemes, introducing relaxation schemes and addressing problems related to resonance and discontinuous fluxes while adding details on the low Mach number situation.
