Everyone has had a buddy they could not forget. Neither time, nor death, nor distance can diminish some friendships, some connections. Ted Norman was already a middle aged man and ENY was in his twenties when they met. ENY was a "roadie" for a fairly well-known rock band, while Norman was a concert promoter for some of the great female divas of years, now pretty much, gone by. WHY MUST THE SHOW GO ON? written by ENY is an entertainingly, theatrical semi-historical memoir from quite literally the wings of the backstage, studio and sound recording booths, world tours and rehearsals that makes Ted Norman's audience a witness to the stark realities behind the headlines. It asks the burning question from his point of view and this book of memories as written by ENY, his close friend and confidant answers it as only a show business insider of long standing can possibly do. The time sequences in this memoir may be cloudy from time-worn memory, but it is all the way Norman remembered it as closely and accurately as possible.

Poetry There are times when I despair of some poetry written, nice words knitted together for the sake of sounding pleasant the truth of life is made into a Hollywood romance, beautiful and we cry, misspent, sentimental tears over the irrelevant. My almond tree looks spindly like an oversized spiders web, so ugly in its bareness that hadnt it been for love I would have averted my gaze from this grimness called a tree. But I also know, say, a month from now it will be covered in pink flowers which it strews on the path I walk. There are times when I hate to hear about red roses, because the next sentence will be trivial, like bleakness should not be a part of life.

The Frontlines Of Peace written by Severine Autesserre and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-01 with Political Science categories.

At turns surprising, funny, and gut-wrenching, this is the hopeful story of the ordinary yet extraordinary people who have figured out how to build lasting peace in their communities The word "peacebuilding" evokes a story we've all heard over and over: violence breaks out, foreign nations are scandalized, peacekeepers and million-dollar donors come rushing in, warring parties sign a peace agreement and, sadly, within months the situation is back to where it started--sometimes worse. But what strategies have worked to build lasting peace in conflict zones, particularly for ordinary citizens on the ground? And why should other ordinary citizens, thousands of miles away, care? In The Frontlines of Peace, Severine Autesserre, award-winning researcher and peacebuilder, examines the well-intentioned but inherently flawed peace industry. With examples drawn from across the globe, she reveals that peace can grow in the most unlikely circumstances. Contrary to what most politicians preach, building peace doesn't require billions in aid or massive international interventions. Real, lasting peace requires giving power to local citizens. The Frontlines of Peace tells the stories of the ordinary yet extraordinary individuals and organizations that are confronting violence in their communities effectively. One thing is clear: successful examples of peacebuilding around the world, in countries at war or at peace, have involved innovative grassroots initiatives led by local people, at times supported by foreigners, often employing methods shunned by the international elite. By narrating success stories of this kind, Autesserre shows the radical changes we must take in our approach if we hope to build lasting peace around us--whether we live in Congo, the United States, or elsewhere.

Life Happens: A Memoir is an honest account of a girl growing up in a small seaside town in Yorkshire where everyone made a point of knowing everyone's business, but nevertheless a town which afforded the kind of freedom and simple delights which are not too available today, in spite of so much change and progress. It recounts a more innocent time, but one when young people had to face the reality of and adjust to the 2nd World War years, and during which our girl learnt how to cope and appreciate the value of love. It's also about growing up in a 34-bedroom seasonal hotel in the town, the impact of its being requisitioned by the army at the onset of war, falling in love (and falling out of it), hopes, dreams, and disappointments, and eventually finding love with Mr (Very) Right. About the Author Eleanor Clapham returned to live in Whitby in 2004 after more than 30 years working as a specialist Chemical Dependency Therapist. She now lives near family in Devon and is writing further memoirs of her life.

“First class . . . a book that helps the reader to understand just what the ordinary soldier thought about his lot in the Great War.” —The Western Front Association This is a most unusual chronicle of the events of one man during the Great War. A professional soldier at the outbreak, Edward Roe was one of the first to cross over to France in 1914 and as such fought in the early battles of the war and took part in the Retreat from Mons. He was there for the crossing of the Marne and Aisne, the dreadful fighting at Ploegsteert and for the extraordinary events during the first Christmas. Remarkably he witnessed the debacle at Gallipoli and was part of the rear-guard of the Army during the re-embarkation and evacuation of the Peninsula. Thereafter the scene shifts to Mesopotamia and the Tigris Corps in the attempt to relieve General Townshend at Kut. Wounded he returned for the final campaign that captured Baghdad. “The author of these unique and extraordinarily moving diaries, which are supported by excellent maps and footnotes, was Edward Roe, an Irishman who had already served nine years with the British Army by the outbreak of the first world war.” —The Times
