A fundamental difference between using runes and other methods of divination is that the runes not only have particular meanings but also specific magical powers. Runes have stronger historical roots in the world of magic and so can be used both for indicating the future (divination) and also for encouraging a change of outcome (magic). Despite the fact that rune knowledge has only survived to the present day by the thinnest of threads, its inherent practicality and flexibility has gone a long way to encouraging new and valid research and exploration. This book is an introduction to the mysterious history and use of Runes. With clear text and illustrations you can learn the meanings of runes and their significance in a reading.

"The runes you must find ... Which the mighty sage stained and the powerful gods made and the runemaster of the gods carved out." (The Poetic Edda, translated by C. Larrington) The runes are mysterious and powerful magical keys to the primal forces of nature that shaped Norse and Northern European culture. These twenty-four unique and inspiring symbols of the Elder Futhark (first runic alphabet) each possess powerful energies, identities, meanings, and sounds. The runes are invoked and harnessed to create change through inspiration, healing, protection, knowledge and divine wisdom from the Norse gods. Odin's Gateways is a practical guide to using the runes in our lives, in magic and in divination - a unique journey into the mysteries hidden within the runes, filled with the information and practices necessary to developing a deep personal understanding and relationship with them. By focusing on how to directly harness and channel the energy of the individual runes, the author guides the reader along the path to self knowledge and empowerment. With a deft hand and lucid style, Katie Gerrard cuts to the heart of the runes, combining the wisdom of the Norse Sagas and Rune Poems with practical advice and techniques gained through living and experiencing their powers. The divinatory meanings of the runes are given, with a range of different reading methods; bindrunes are explained in detail, with numerous examples presented ready for use; galdr (incantation) and spellcraft, charms and talismans are all seamlessly explored and made accessible in this fluid, concise and practical guide.

Introduction to the use of runes as a practical script for a variety of purposes in Anglo-Saxon England. Runes are quite frequently mentioned in modern writings, usually imprecisely as a source of mystic knowledge, power or insight. This book sets the record straight. It shows runes working as a practical script for a variety of purposes in early English times, among both indigenous Anglo-Saxons and incoming Vikings. In a scholarly yet readable way it examines the introduction of the runic alphabet (the futhorc) to England in the fifth and sixth centuries, the forms and values of its letters, and the ways in which it developed, up until its decline at the end of the Anglo-Saxon period. It discusses how runes were used for informal and day-to-day purposes, on formal monuments, as decorative letters in prestigious manuscripts, for owners' or makers' names on everyday objects, perhaps even in private letters. For the first time, the book presents, together with earlier finds, the many runic objects discovered over the last twenty years, with a range of inscriptions on bone, metal and stone, even including tourists' scratched signatures found on the pilgrimage routes through Italy. It gives an idea of the immense range of informationon language and social history contained in these unique documents. The late R.I. PAGE was former Professor of Anglo-Saxon in the University of Cambridge.

Runes are an ancient method of divination that still remain popular and useful today. Many people find them intriguing, because of their unique history and specific means of divination. Unlike fortune telling, runes are used to delve into a person's subconscious, and explore their true desires. They can be a wonderful aid in meditational practice, gaining self-awareness, or just getting some more perspective on various situations in your life. To people unfamiliar with divination tools, it may seem like some kind of spooky magic trick, witchcraft or even something demonic. None of those descriptions are accurate, and actually, runes encourage a person to explore their own mind and gain self-introspection. Initially part of an ancient Germanic alphabet, Runes have existed for hundreds of years. Versions of runes have been found in many different cultures all across the world, with stones created in a multitude of alphabets and designs. Simply put, runes are an old relic that has survived the test of time and is still proven useful today. The stones are a simple oracle which one can use to stimulate the thinking process. When the stones are cast, they aren't always entirely specific, meaning it is up to you to consider what they are telling you and how it relates to what you were asking. This often opens that pathway for critical thinking, solving problems and reducing stress.

'Vegvísir' is the name of a famous Icelandic magical sign. It means 'signpost' or 'guide', and that is exactly what this book is. In this outstanding new volume, a follow-up to "Icelandic Magic: Aims, Tools and Techniques of the Icelandic Sorcerers" (Avalonia 2015), Christopher Alan Smith goes a step further and teaches how to apply these techniques in your life for success, wealth, contentment, or whatever it is that you fervently wish for. Beginning with a devastating attack on the frivolities and anxieties of the modern world, he guides you, chapter by chapter, towards alignment with mythic reality and the development of latent skills that you always had, but never realised. Based on nearly 50 years of magical practice, and with an empathy born of experience, the author patiently encourages you to inherit the abilities that are yours by right, and challenges you to make use of these. There are many people in the world, all mortal. Will you be one of those who prove themselves somewhat more than mortal: the seed of the gods? *** "Personally, I think of magic as the art and science of changing the Narrative. Narrative is not just a matter of idly telling stories; it is a powerful force in its own right, exerting itself through mythic reality, in ancient folktales, and in the story you tell yourself, day in, day out." - C.A. Smith in VEGVÍSIR
