Excerpt from A Primer General Method: Being an Introduction to Educational Theory and Practice on the Basis of Logic, for Use in Normal Schools Educational science must seek for materials in many fields. The purpose here is to point out certain considerations drawn from the study of Logic which have a direct bearing upon educational theory and practice. Psychology is almost invariably given a place on programmes for the training of teachers. It deals, however, with mental life in its structural aspects chiefly; and the educator cannot afford to omit or postpone the study of the functional side of mind. He is vitally interested in problems relating to the value or validity of cognitive processes which psychology aims simply to describe. He must enquire into the value of feeling as well as into its various forms. He cannot be satisfied with a mere description of volitional experience, but desires to go forward to a valuation of conduct. The three closely connected fields of logic, aesthetics, and ethics thus lie alongside that of psychology in a complementary relation which cannot be ignored in a programme of studies for Normal Schools. Indeed, the beginner in educational science might far more easily dispense with Psychology than with Logic. A Primer In Econometric Theory written by John Stachurski and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-05 with Business & Economics categories.

A concise treatment of modern econometrics and statistics, including underlying ideas from linear algebra, probability theory, and computer programming. This book offers a cogent and concise treatment of econometric theory and methods along with the underlying ideas from statistics, probability theory, and linear algebra. It emphasizes foundations and general principles, but also features many solved exercises, worked examples, and code listings. After mastering the material presented, readers will be ready to take on more advanced work in different areas of quantitative economics and to understand papers from the econometrics literature. The book can be used in graduate-level courses on foundational aspects of econometrics or on fundamental statistical principles. It will also be a valuable reference for independent study. One distinctive aspect of the text is its integration of traditional topics from statistics and econometrics with modern ideas from data science and machine learning; readers will encounter ideas that are driving the current development of statistics and increasingly filtering into econometric methodology. The text treats programming not only as a way to work with data but also as a technique for building intuition via simulation. Many proofs are followed by a simulation that shows the theory in action. As a primer, the book offers readers an entry point into the field, allowing them to see econometrics as a whole rather than as a profusion of apparently unrelated ideas.

A Primer Of Permutation Statistical Methods written by Kenneth J. Berry and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-02 with Mathematics categories.

The primary purpose of this textbook is to introduce the reader to a wide variety of elementary permutation statistical methods. Permutation methods are optimal for small data sets and non-random samples, and are free of distributional assumptions. The book follows the conventional structure of most introductory books on statistical methods, and features chapters on central tendency and variability, one-sample tests, two-sample tests, matched-pairs tests, one-way fully-randomized analysis of variance, one-way randomized-blocks analysis of variance, simple regression and correlation, and the analysis of contingency tables. In addition, it introduces and describes a comparatively new permutation-based, chance-corrected measure of effect size. Because permutation tests and measures are distribution-free, do not assume normality, and do not rely on squared deviations among sample values, they are currently being applied in a wide variety of disciplines. This book presents permutation alternatives to existing classical statistics, and is intended as a textbook for undergraduate statistics courses or graduate courses in the natural, social, and physical sciences, while assuming only an elementary grasp of statistics.

A Primer For Finite Elements In Elastic Structures written by W. F. Carroll and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-11-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

A thorough guide to the fundamentals--and how to use them--of finite element analysis for elastic structures For elastic structures, the finite element method is an invaluable tool which is used most effectively only when one understands completely each of its facets. A Primer for Finite Elements in Elastic Structures disassembles the entire finite element method for civil engineering students and professionals, detailing its supportive theory and its mathematical and structural underpinnings, in the context of elastic structures and the principle of virtual work. The book opens with a discussion of matrix algebra and algebraic equation systems to foster the basic skills required to successfully understand and use the finite element method. Key mathematical concepts outlined here are joined to pertinent concepts from mechanics and structural theory, with the method constructed in terms of one-dimensional truss and framework finite elements. The use of these one-dimensional elements in the early chapters promotes better understanding of the fundamentals. Subsequent chapters describe many two-dimensional structural finite elements in depth, including the geometry, mechanics, transformations, and mapping needed for them. Most chapters end with questions and problems which review the text material. Answers for many of these are at the end of the book. An appendix describes how to use MATLAB(r), a popular matrix-manipulation software platform necessary to perform the many matrix operations required for the finite element method, such as matrix addition, multiplication, inversion, partitioning, rearrangement, and assembly. As an added extra, the m-files discussed can be downloaded from the Wiley FTP server.

A Primer Of Multivariate Statistics written by Richard J. Harris and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-05-01 with Psychology categories.

Drawing upon more than 30 years of experience in working with statistics, Dr. Richard J. Harris has updated A Primer of Multivariate Statistics to provide a model of balance between how-to and why. This classic text covers multivariate techniques with a taste of latent variable approaches. Throughout the book there is a focus on the importance of describing and testing one's interpretations of the emergent variables that are produced by multivariate analysis. This edition retains its conversational writing style while focusing on classical techniques. The book gives the reader a feel for why one should consider diving into more detailed treatments of computer-modeling and latent-variable techniques, such as non-recursive path analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and hierarchical linear modeling. Throughout the book there is a focus on the importance of describing and testing one's interpretations of the emergent variables that are produced by multivariate analysis.
