This textbook provides an introduction to the new techniques of subharmonic functions and analytic multifunctions in spectral theory. Topics include the basic results of functional analysis, bounded operations on Banach and Hilbert spaces, Banach algebras, and applications of spectral subharmonicity. Each chapter is followed by exercises of varying difficulty. Much of the subject matter, particularly in spectral theory, operator theory and Banach algebras, contains new results.

An Introduction To Local Spectral Theory written by K. B. Laursen and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Mathematics categories.

Modern local spectral theory is built on the classical spectral theorem, a fundamental result in single-operator theory and Hilbert spaces. This book provides an in-depth introduction to the natural expansion of this fascinating topic of Banach space operator theory, whose pioneers include Dunford, Bishop, Foias, and others. Assuming only modest prerequisites of its readership, it gives complete coverage of the field, including the fundamental recent work by Albrecht and Eschmeier which provides the full duality theory for Banach space operators. It is highlighted by many characterizations of decomposable operators, and of other related, important classes of operators, as well as an in-depth study of their spectral properties, including identifications of distinguished parts, and results on permanence properties of spectra with respect to several types of similarity. Also found is a thorough and quite elementary treatment of the modern single- operator duality theory; this theory has many applications, both to general issues of classification and to such celebrated problems as the invariant subspace problems. A long chapter - almost a book in itself - is devoted to the use of local spectral theory in the study of spectral properties of multipliers and convolution operators. Another one describes its connections to automatic continuity theory. Written in a careful and detailed style, it contains numerous examples, many simplified proofs of classical results, and extensive references. It concludes with a list of interesting open problems, suitable for continued research.

Banach Algebras And The General Theory Of Algebras Volume 2 Algebras written by Theodore W. Palmer and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Mathematics categories.

This is the second volume of a two-volume set that provides a modern account of basic Banach algebra theory including all known results on general Banach *-algebras. The author emphasizes the roles of *-algebra structure and explores the algebraic results which underlie the theory of Banach algebras and *-algebras. Proofs are presented in complete detail at a level accessible to graduate students. The books will become the standard reference for the general theory of *-algebras. This second volume deals with *-algebras. Chapter 9 develops the theory of *-algebras without additional restrictions. Chapter 10 proves nearly all the results previously known for Banach *-algebras and hermitian Banach *-algebras for *-algebras with various essentially algebraic restrictions. Chapter 11 restates the previous results in terms of Banach *-algebras and uses them to prove results explicitly involving the complete norm. Chapter 12 is devoted to locally compact groups and the *-algebras related to them.

Real And Functional Analysis written by Vladimir I. Bogachev and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-25 with Mathematics categories.

This book is based on lectures given at "Mekhmat", the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, one of the top mathematical departments worldwide, with a rich tradition of teaching functional analysis. Featuring an advanced course on real and functional analysis, the book presents not only core material traditionally included in university courses of different levels, but also a survey of the most important results of a more subtle nature, which cannot be considered basic but which are useful for applications. Further, it includes several hundred exercises of varying difficulty with tips and references. The book is intended for graduate and PhD students studying real and functional analysis as well as mathematicians and physicists whose research is related to functional analysis.

This is the first volume of a two volume set that provides a modern account of basic Banach algebra theory including all known results on general Banach *-algebras. This account emphasizes the role of *-algebraic structure and explores the algebraic results that underlie the theory of Banach algebras and *-algebras. The first volume, which contains previously unpublished results, is an independent, self-contained reference on Banach algebra theory. Each topic is treated in the maximum interesting generality within the framework of some class of complex algebras rather than topological algebras. Proofs are presented in complete detail at a level accessible to graduate students. The book contains a wealth of historical comments, background material, examples, particularly in noncommutative harmonic analysis, and an extensive bibliography. Volume II is forthcoming.

Lie Sphere Geometry written by Thomas E. Cecil and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-09 with Mathematics categories.

Lie Sphere Geometry provides a modern treatment of Lie's geometry of spheres, its recent applications and the study of Euclidean space. This book begins with Lie's construction of the space of spheres, including the fundamental notions of oriented contact, parabolic pencils of spheres and Lie sphere transformation. The link with Euclidean submanifold theory is established via the Legendre map. This provides a powerful framework for the study of submanifolds, especially those characterized by restrictions on their curvature spheres. Of particular interest are isoparametric, Dupin and taut submanifolds. These have recently been classified up to Lie sphere transformation in certain special cases through the introduction of natural Lie invariants. The author provides complete proofs of these classifications and indicates directions for further research and wider application of these methods.

Written as a hybrid between a research monograph and a textbook the first half of this book is concerned with basic concepts for the study of Banach algebras that, in a sense, are not too far from being commutative. Essentially, the algebra under consideration either has a sufficiently large center or is subject to a higher order commutator property (an algebra with a so-called polynomial identity or in short: Pl-algebra). In the second half of the book, a number of selected examples are used to demonstrate how this theory can be successfully applied to problems in operator theory and numerical analysis. Distinguished by the consequent use of local principles (non-commutative Gelfand theories), PI-algebras, Mellin techniques and limit operator techniques, each one of the applications presented in chapters 4, 5 and 6 forms a theory that is up to modern standards and interesting in its own right. Written in a way that can be worked through by the reader with fundamental knowledge of analysis, functional analysis and algebra, this book will be accessible to 4th year students of mathematics or physics whilst also being of interest to researchers in the areas of operator theory, numerical analysis, and the general theory of Banach algebras.

Applied And Computational Matrix Analysis written by Natália Bebiano and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-01 with Mathematics categories.

This volume presents recent advances in the field of matrix analysis based on contributions at the MAT-TRIAD 2015 conference. Topics covered include interval linear algebra and computational complexity, Birkhoff polynomial basis, tensors, graphs, linear pencils, K-theory and statistic inference, showing the ubiquity of matrices in different mathematical areas. With a particular focus on matrix and operator theory, statistical models and computation, the International Conference on Matrix Analysis and its Applications 2015, held in Coimbra, Portugal, was the sixth in a series of conferences. Applied and Computational Matrix Analysis will appeal to graduate students and researchers in theoretical and applied mathematics, physics and engineering who are seeking an overview of recent problems and methods in matrix analysis.
