A Primer On The Kinematics Of Discrete Elastic Rods written by M. Khalid Jawed and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This primer discusses a numerical formulation of the theory of an elastic rod, known as a discrete elastic rod, that was recently developed in a series of papers by Miklós Bergou et al. Their novel formulation of discrete elastic rods represents an exciting new method to simulate and analyze the behavior of slender bodies that can be modeled using an elastic rod. The formulation has been extensively employed in computer graphics and is highly cited. In the primer, we provide relevant background from both discrete and classical differential geometry so a reader familiar with classic rod theories can appreciate, comprehend, and use Bergou et al.’s computational efficient formulation of a nonlinear rod theory. The level of coverage is suitable for graduate students in mechanics and engineering sciences.

Engineering Dynamics written by Oliver M. O'Reilly and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-23 with Mathematics categories.
This primer is intended to provide the theoretical background for the standard undergraduate, mechanical engineering course in dynamics. Representative problems are discussed and simulated throughout the book to illustrate fundamental concepts and explore the development of mathematical models for mechanical systems. The text grew out of the author’s desire to provide a complement to traditional texts on the subject and promote a systematic approach to problem solving. For all the examples discussed in the primer, a systematic four-step approach is employed. The third edition of the text has been revised in response to student comments on earlier editions and the increased availability of simulation software. The revisions include the addition of several new examples of models for the dynamics of systems ranging from an aerosol spray to a spherical robot. The primer has three intended audiences: undergraduate students enrolled in an introductory course on engineering dynamics, graduate students who are interesting in refreshing their knowledge, and instructors. Review of Second Edition: "The book is carefully written and provides a good introduction to the subject. The main objective of this primer is to reduce the gap between the theoretical framework and an undergraduate student’s ability to solve typical problems of undergraduate dynamics. Well-selected problems illustrate a systematic four-step methodology for solving problems from the dynamics of single particles, of systems of particles, of a single rigid body, and of a system of particles and rigid bodies. ... At the end of each chapter some illustrative examples were added." - Franz Selig, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1201, 2011

Higher Gradient Materials And Related Generalized Continua written by Holm Altenbach and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book discusses recent findings and advanced theories presented at two workshops at TU Berlin in 2017 and 2018. It underlines several advantages of generalized continuum models compared to the classical Cauchy continuum, which although widely used in engineering practice, has a number of limitations, such as: • The structural size is very small. • The microstructure is complex. • The effects are localized. As such, the development of generalized continuum models is helpful and results in a better description of the behavior of structures or materials. At the same time, there are more and more experimental studies supporting the new models because the number of material parameters is higher.

A Primer In Elasticity written by Paolo Podio-Guidugli and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-11-30 with Mathematics categories.
This book presents the foundational issues of linear elasticity in a compact, unabridged manner; it is directed to mathematicians and physical scientists who care for approaching this classical subject with rigor and depth. There are four chapters: the first two illustrate, respectively, the concepts of deformation and strain and of force and stress; the third is devoted to a study of constitutive relations; the last discusses the posing of equilibrium problems. The emphasis is in the description of elasticity as a model whose construction calls for a delicate interplay between physics and mathematics. The conceptual links with general continuum mechanics are carefully indicated. It would not be easy to find in one other book a treatment of such issues as exact and linearized equilibria, the constitutive problems of classification and representation, internal constraints and material symmetries, elastic equilibrium with the Cauchy relations, and elastic equilibrium in the presence of internal constraints. The book can be be used to teach one-semester advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in elasticity theory to students in applied mathematics and engineering; for this purpose, it contains one hundred exercises of variable difficulty.

The bestselling author of The Drunkard's Walk and Subliminal unlocks the secrets of flexible thinking. What do Pokémon Go and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein have in common? Why do some businesses survive, and others fail at the first sign of change? What gives the human brain the edge over computers? The answer: Elastic Thinking. It's an ability we all possess, and one that we can all learn to hone in order to succeed, at work and in our everyday lives. Here Leonard Mlodinow, whose own flexible thinking has taken him from physics professor to TV scriptwriter and bestselling author, takes us on a revelatory exploration of how elasticity works. He draws on cutting-edge neuroscience to show how, millennia ago, our brains developed an affinity for novelty, idea generation and exploration. He discovers how flexible thinking enabled some of the greatest artists, writers, musicians and innovators to create paradigm shifts. He investigates the organisations that have demonstrated an elastic ability to adapt to new technologies. And he reveals how you can test your own brain power and increase your capacity for elastic thinking. By uncovering the secrets of our flexible minds, Elastic explains how to thrive in an endlessly dynamic world, at a time when an ability to adapt is more important than ever before.

This SpringerBrief covers the main scales of description of matter, starting at its finest level, the quantum scale, moving through ab-initio, molecular dynamics, coarse grained approaches, to finish at the scale of kinetic theory models that allows a nice compromise between the rich but expensive microscopic descriptions and the computationally cheap but sometimes too coarse macroscopic descriptions. The book addresses undergraduate and graduate students, as well as beginners in multi-scale modeling of materials.
