Tourists and other friends of Ndi Igbo can pick up this book and teach themselves the language without much external assistance. A look at their adequate translation of the English words, added to the depicting imagery which serves as a road map to a complete understanding of the dictum, projects this book as an excellent Igbo learning book of our time. To Ndi Igbo who seem to be losing their language, this book beckons on you to trace back your root. You do not need to be in Igboland to speak Igbo. It is your identity at home and abroad, an identity God has given you just as he has given to others. I believe the years of ignorance of gentile psycho-manipulations are over, and we truly need to start looking at ourselves the way we were made. Let us not allow the cultural imperialism in the context of the superpower status of English Language to remain potent in our continued existence. It is sad to note that Igbo Language and Culture, which recorded modest gain in the past, has been in limbo since the death of its founder and foremost exponent, F.C. Ogbalu, in 1989. Let me borrow the words of Jawaharlal Nehru in rounding off this forward: "A language is something infinitely greater than grammar and philology. It is the poetic testament of a race and culture and the living embodiment of the thoughts and fancies that molded them." This Igbo book is worth reading for every Igbo student and lovers of Igbo culture. The authors of "Suo Asusu Igbo Taa" are highly commended for taking Igbo people back to basics, a foundation which is important for the true understanding of the language. They have through this well researched work made Igbo language easier for all to read, understand and speak

This volume brings together the proceedings of the “European Summer School for Process Thought”, which took place in Mülheim, Germany, in August 2012. It explores Alfred North Whitehead’s thinking in different fields of science, connecting his philosophical writings with physics, religion, education, psychology and aesthetics. The first part of the book is concerned with Whitehead’s philosophical methodology, discussing a plethora of subjects, including the interdependence between some of Whitehead’s works, the role of logic in his style of argument, concepts of time, the role of symbolism, and the relation between specialized terminology and the colloquial in Whitehead’s philosophy. The second part explores applications for the concepts of Whitehead’s thinking in a broader context. In scientific fields as diverse as physics, theological and classical Chinese religious thought, concepts of education and psychological theories of embodiment, Whitehead’s basic philosophical concepts have been implemented in various different ways. As such, this book holds an interdisciplinary appeal for Whitehead scholars from different scientific backgrounds.

This thought-provoking, passionate, revealing the first book of poems by Xavier Josephs introduces a unique realm of senses, genres, and social awareness. Prism awakens a nuanced sense of creativity that is often overlooked. From rhythmic lines to brash sentiments, Joseph's experiments with style incorporating personal experiences and current events to tell stories. In short, Prism is as transparent as it gets. To understand these pieces, one must step out of their conscious into a place they are not used to. These complex experiences allow poetry to happen as well as empathy for what is happening. From the Author: Being my first book, PRISM is merely what the title states: a prism. I am using my words, experiences, and thoughts to be the light that goes into this book to touch and open the minds of you, the reader. You are also the colorful rays of light that are the result of shining light into a prism. I encourage all readers to approach the book with an open mind and empathize to feel the words, emotions, and experiences within this book.

Exploring the creativity of mind through children's language: how the tiniest utterances can illustrate the simple but abstract principles behind modern grammar—and reveal the innate structures of the mind. Every sentence we hear is instantly analyzed by an inner grammar; just as a prism refracts a beam of light, grammar divides a stream of sound, linking diverse strings of information to different domains of mind—memory, vision, emotions, intentions. In The Prism of Grammar, Tom Roeper brings the abstract principles behind modern grammar to life by exploring the astonishing intricacies of child language. Adult expressions provide endless puzzles for the child to solve. The individual child's solutions ("Don't uncomfortable the cat" is one example) may amuse adults but they also reveal the complexity of language and the challenges of mastering it. The tiniest utterances, says Roeper, reflect the whole mind and engage the child's free will and sense of dignity. He offers numerous and novel "explorations"—many at the cutting edge of current work—that anyone can try, even in conversation around the dinner table. They elicit how the child confronts "recursion"—the heartbeat of grammar—through endless possessives ("John's mother's friend's car"), mysterious plurals, contradictory adjectives, the marvels of ellipsis, and the deep obscurity of reference ("there it is, right here"). They are not tests of skill; they are tools for discovery and delight, not diagnosis. Each chapter on acquisition begins with a commonsense look at how structures work—moving from the simple to the complex—and then turns to the literary and human dimensions of grammar. One important human dimension is the role of dialect in society and in the lives of children. Roeper devotes three chapters to the structure of African-American English and the challenge of responding to linguistic prejudice. Written in a lively style, accessible and gently provocative, The Prism of Grammar is for parents and teachers as well as students—for everyone who wants to understand how children gain and use language—and anyone interested in the social, philosophical, and ethical implications of how we see the growing mind emerge.
