With his work, the Italian artist Ugo Nespolo (1941-) has given shape to a poetics that stands out in the contemporary art scene by existing on the border between avant-garde and pop. He has experimented in almost every field of art, in and out of different screens, from paintings to installations and cinema. This book is a collection of philosophical essays that analyse Nespolo’s poetics from different theoretical perspectives, focused in particular on his artworks and films. The book consists of three sections. The first includes essays dedicated to Nespolo’s works that fall within the visual arts. The second presents contributions that investigate his cinema and some of his films. The third section concludes the book with two interviews conducted at different stages of Nespolo’s career, which tackle some of the key themes of his poetics, offering a direct insight into his theoretical reflection.

Nel panorama culturale del XVII secolo la figura di Guarino Guarini emerge principalmente per il suo ruolo di architetto legata com'è all'immagine delle sue realizzazioni più famose: la Chiesa di S. Lorenzo, il Palazzo Carignano e soprattutto la Cappella della SS. Sindone. Tuttavia il suo contributo di teorico allo sviluppo di altre discipline come la filosofia, l'astronomia e la matematica non può certo dirsi trascurabile né tanto meno superficiale tanto da proporlo come uno degli "anelli di congiunzione" più significativi tra la cultura rinascimentale-barocca e le avanguardie illuministe. Questo in filosofia, rielaborando le tesi razionaliste senza però rinnegare la tradizione aristotelica; nell'arte, teorizzando un rapporto nuovo di libertà creativa tra artista ed opera rimanendo comunque all'interno degli schemi classici; in matematica, infine, gettando le basi di una teoria unitaria delle Proiezioni nel quadro della più rigorosa ortodossia euclidea. Quest'ultimo aspetto acquista un valore particolare qualora lo si consideri, nel quadro della storia della Scienza della Rappresentazione, in relazione allo sviluppo del Metodo della Doppia Proiezione Ortogonale che, nell'accezione ancora prevalente, "nasce" soltanto con Gaspard Monge alla fine del XVIII secolo quando invece già con Guarini assume la connotazione di metodo maturo e rigoroso. Analisi più recenti ed obiettive cominciano d'altronde a mostrare uno sviluppo del Metodo della Doppia Proiezione Ortogonale che con continuità attraversa la storia della Matematica ma soprattutto della Scienza della Rappresentazione applicata al progetto e alla costruzione dell'Architettura. Il contributo di Guarini appare dunque saldamente inserito in un percorso evolutivo che dalla vitruviana icnographia e ortographia (ma forse anche da periodi ben più remoti) attraversa la storia con continuità fino alle contemporanee applicazioni CAD che tanto profondamente stanno ancora una volta cambiando una tutt'altro che morta Scienza della Rappresentazione. Nuovi spunti possono derivare da questa impostazione sia in relazione allo studio dell'opera di Guarini (anche come paradigma di quell'indissolubile e fecondo legame tra arte e scienza che sta alla base della sua poetica) sia nel senso di una riscrittura di quella parte della Storia della Rappresentazione relativa ai "precursori" di Monge. Questo duplice obiettivo è stato perseguito da un lato attraverso la traduzione dal latino dei Trattati XXVI (De proiecturis) e XXXII (De superficiebus in planum redigendis) dell'Euclides adauctus e lo studio sistematico e comparato dei procedimenti geometrico-proiettivi anche in relazione alle altre opere guariniane (specialmente l'Architettura Civile); dall'altro confrontando le forme studiate da Guarini (quelle che oggi comunemente definiamo "superfici che ricorrono in architettura") con la sua produzione di architetto. Carlo Bianchini, architetto, è Professore Associato presso la Facoltà di Architettura "Ludovico Quaroni" de "La Sapienza" Università di Roma, dove insegna Geometria Descrittiva e Modellazione 3D nei Corsi di Scienza della Rappresentazione. Impegnato in numerosi progetti di cooperazione culturale e scientifica in ambito euro mediterraneo, è tra i fondatori dell'Associazione HERIMED di cui, dal marzo 2006, è membro dello Steering Committee. Autore di numerose pubblicazioni, svolge un'intensa attività di ricerca che abbraccia vari settori dell'ambito disciplinare del Disegno, sia in relazione alle Metodologie e alle Tecniche di Rilievo, alla Modellazione 3D, che ai Fondamenti della Rappresentazione e alla loro evoluzione storica. Rientrano in quest'ultimo gli studi relativi alla Stereotomia e alla Storia dei Metodi di Rappresentazione ed in particolare del Metodo delle Proiezioni Ortogonali.
