Metapsicologia neofreudiana: a psicanálise no século XXI propõe um sistema teórico para fundamentar a psicanálise atual. Esta, apesar de ser muito diferente da praticada por Freud, não possui uma teoria consistente em que se basear, motivo pelo qual continua a seguir as linhas teóricas traçadas por Freud nos célebres ensaios metapsicológicos. A rigor, Freud não completou a metapsicologia com que pretendia fundamentar a psicanálise. Assim, restaram apenas ensaios esparsos, fragmentários, herméticos e obscuros, escritos em épocas diferentes. Em suma, a psicanálise formou-se sem um esquema teórico sólido e coerente para embasá-la. À semelhan ça da tentativa de Freud de formular uma metapsicologia para dotar a psicanálise de um sistema coerente, que jamais conseguiu levar a cabo, este livro apresenta uma metapsicologia neofreudiana para alicerçar a psicanálise praticada neste século, mediante a reunião e a articulação dos diversos aspectos válidos dos ensaios metapsicológicos, enriquecendo-os com as contribuições dos principais construtores da psicanálise atual, em que se destaca o emblemático conceito de conhecimento relacional implícito, expressão maior da modernidade psicanalítica. A metapsicologia neofreudiana também leva em conta outros ramos da ciência, particularmente a etologia e a neurociência.
