Hans Christian Andersen escreveu mais de 150 contos infantis, uma obra que se tornou patrimônio da literatura mundial. Alguns de seus textos mais conhecidas são “O Patinho Feio”, “O Soldadinho de Chumbo”, “A Pequena Sereia”, “A Roupa Nova do Imperador” e “A Princesa e a Ervilha”. Andersen tratava de comportamentos que fossem adequados a estrutura social, refletindo em suas obras os conflitos derivados das relações de poder, revelando sua crença de a igualdade de direitos deveria prevalecer nas relações humanas. O conto “A Psique” trata das aspirações artísticas e amorosas de um jovem escultor, ambientado na Roma Renascentista. Em 2014, em comemoração ao aniversário do autor (2 de abril) o site “Biographile” propôs a leitura de quatro estórias menos difundidas do autor, entre elas “A Psique”. O nome original do conto é “Psychen” e foi escrito em 1861. Este conto foi traduzido para o Português. Notas de Tradução: 1. Psique: do grego “Alma", na mitologia grega clássica, Psique era uma princesa de grande beleza que despertou o ciúme de Vênus e o amor de Cupido. 2. Saltarello: música medieval e renascentista, acompanhada de dança animada, dançada por casais, mencionada pela primeira vez em Nápoles, durante o século XIV; gozava de grande popularidade nas cortes da Europa medieval. Durante o século XV, a palavra tornou-se o nome de um passo de dança particular e o nome de um medidor de música. 3. Bacante: sacerdotisa de Baco; fig. cortesã impudica. Brazil has long been a country in search of its own meaning and mission. Early in their history Brazilians began to puzzle over their surroundings and their relation to them. The eighteenth century produced an entire school of nativistic writers who, with the advent of independence, became fiery nationalists, still pursuing introspective studies of their homeland. Throughout the nineteenth century, the intellectuals of Brazil determined to define their nation, its character, and its aspirations. In this now well-established tradition, José Honório Rodrigues confronts the questions of who and what the Brazilian is, what Brazil stands for, where it has been, and where it is going. This study, originally published in Portuguese as Aspirações nacionais, was especially timely at a period when strong feelings of nationalism led Brazilians to seek to define their own image, and when the revolution of rising expectations disposed them to determine what goals they were seeking and how far they were on the road to achieving them. In order to understand and explain his nation, Rodrigues poses two questions: what are the national characteristics, and what are the national aspirations?
