The party was planned . . . college friends, booze, even a couple of strippers. But, the revelry the boys were anticipating never happened. Instead of the good time they had hoped for, several members of the Duke University lacrosse team were charged with assault and rape. Amazingly, when the district attorney stepped up to the bank of microphones on a world stage and made his pronouncement, it soulded like an easy verdict. Few suspected that this blockbuster of a news story was based on lies and furthered by private political ambitions. Seasoned trial lawyer Nader Baydoun, a Duke alumnus, paid close attention to the lacrosse case from the moment it broke. And it wasn't long before he suspected that something was wrong. Baydoun started digging. here's what he and his collaborator, New York Times best-selling author and attorney R. Stephanie Good, found: From the very start, the supposed victim, Crystal Gale Mangum, and her partner, gave highly inconsistent statements District Attorney Mike Nifong never interviewed Mangum about the night of the supposed rape The DA damned the players in the press even after he saw DNA evidence that irrevocably vindicated them Nifong made a deal to keep exculpatory DNA evidence a secret The DA refused to review other evidence that proved the players could not have sexually assaulted Mangum, including rock-solid alibis These appalling facts, along with many others revealed here, add up to this: At no time was there ever any credible evidence that a rape had occurred?and the DA dragged three innocent young men through a merciless gauntlet for the sole purpose of advancing his political career. In this landmark book, Baydoun gives the behind-the-scenes account of the Duke lacrosse rape case from primary sources, and sheds light on the real victims in a case that gripped the nation.

Examines how postfeminism and postracialism intersect to perpetuate systemic injustice in the United States. Historicizing Post-Discourses explores how postfeminism and postracialism intersect in dominant narratives of triumphalism, white male crisis, neoliberal and colonial feminism, and multiculturalism to perpetuate systemic injustice in America. By examining various locations within popular culture, including television shows such as Mad Men and The Wire; books such as The Help and Lean In; as well as Hollywood films, fan forums, political blogs, and presidential speeches, Tanya Ann Kennedy demonstrates the dominance of postfeminism and postracialism in US culture. In addition, she shows how post-discourses create affective communities through their engineering of the history of both race and gender justice. Tanya Ann Kennedy is Associate Professor of Humanities at the University of Maine at Farmington and the author of “Keeping Up Her Geography”: Women’s Writing and Geocultural Space in Twentieth-Century U.S. Literature and Culture.

Justice Justice Where Art Thou written by William Ballhaus, Sr and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10 with Law categories.

Justice, Justice, Where Art Thou? tells many real life stories of people who have been the victims of the Courts, Judges, and Attorneys in the United States. The author's search for justice in the courts relates the terrible experiences he endured at the mercy of the legal system. Specific judicial errors of fact and of law subjected the author to severe injustices at the hands of judges who ignored his right to a trial by jury. He tried to find justice at all levels: City Courts, State Courts, Federal Courts, Courts of Appeals, and even the United States Supreme Court. None of the courts was interested in seeing that justice was done to the author. That lack of justice led the author to study many cases tried in the various courts of the country. It was difficult to find that justice was attained in many cases. There were a few fine results, but they were very rare. As Mark Twain said, "Judges and lawyers use the law to defeat the ends of justice."

An urgent manifesto and a dramatic memoir of awakening, this is the story of revolutionary love. Finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize • “In a world stricken with fear and turmoil, Valarie Kaur shows us how to summon our deepest wisdom.”—Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love How do we love in a time of rage? How do we fix a broken world while not breaking ourselves? Valarie Kaur—renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer—describes revolutionary love as the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are part of me I do not yet know. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change: It is a practice that can transform a relationship, a community, a culture, even a nation. Kaur takes readers through her own riveting journey—as a brown girl growing up in California farmland finding her place in the world; as a young adult galvanized by the murders of Sikhs after 9/11; as a law student fighting injustices in American prisons and on Guantánamo Bay; as an activist working with communities recovering from xenophobic attacks; and as a woman trying to heal from her own experiences with police violence and sexual assault. Drawing from the wisdom of sages, scientists, and activists, Kaur reclaims love as an active, public, and revolutionary force that creates new possibilities for ourselves, our communities, and our world. See No Stranger helps us imagine new ways of being with each other—and with ourselves—so that together we can begin to build the world we want to see.

This book is an adventure of the life and growth of a nerdy kid from the streets of Jersey City, New Jersey. Displaced to the deep south of Pensacola, Florida, he struggled as a fish out of water and found himself getting into trouble often in his early years. This years and experiences also taught him about fear and how to overcome it. His early beginnings had him leading a gang at sixteen years old and committing robberies and break-ins followed by his inevitable imprisonment for his crimes in (the Wall) Huntsville, Texas as well as years of hard labor at Florida State Prison in Raiford, Florida, and Bartow Prison Road Camp, a Cool Hand Luke type of facility. Eventually, he gained his freedom and spent years dispensing vigilante justice. That abruptly came to an end with miracle of circumstances. In all, Jim has been described as a man with the tenacity of Clint Eastwood, the adrenaline rush of Indiana Jones, the physical feats of a James Bond movie, the genius of Einstein, the psychoanalyzing skills of Dr. Phil, and the power of Al Capone. He surrendered it all to a life in Jesus Christ and became a humble minister of God.

This research unpacks the reasons of the Muslim Brotherhood’s factionalism post-2013 and defines the scope of disagreements within the group, by applying an interactionist approach to factionalism. This approach analyzes the interplay between the macro-, meso-, and micro- dimensions. The research re-constructs the narrative of Muslim Brotherhood's factionalism post-2013, and includes the implicit micro-structural dimensions of the factional process, thereby proposing a more comprehensive narrative to the conflict.

Some days can seem just ordinary. We awaken at a designated time with a head full of tasks, have-to and what ifs. We might check our phones and devices, getting info for the day that ranges from the weather, stocks, politics, and messages to “Alexa, turn on the coffee pot.” Somehow, this probable routine has become normal. Somehow, this may be how we prepare for an ordinary day with the intent that we might be ready and safe to greet the day with some level of pleasure and success. All this actually sounds reasonable. However, it only takes one traffic jam one late bus, one unexpected phone call, one breaking news alert, and this seemingly reliable system can easily crumble into dust carrying all positive goals and expectations with it. We would falter into distractions, upsets, frustrations and fatigue before noon, because of “something” or “someone” that knocks us off our purposed day and all without warning. Uncertainty bubbles up everywhere. Local and global news are filled with violence and upheaval on a regular basis. We are bombarded by the media on all our tech devices, and we now are even further conflicted with what has been phrased “Fake news.” We have access 24/7 to split-second, ongoing information, yet we don’t really know what is valid and what isn’t. We may feel the media, government, philosophies, dreams, goals and faith have all failed us. Whom or what can we trust? We do our best to analyze, understand the rapid pace of present lives, and somewhere deep inside we perhaps all want similar goals. We desire peace, prosperity, healthy bodies and relationships, and the opportunity to make some dreams come true personally and professionally. It all sounds reasonable. However, the biggest challenge may be how to bridge what we desire from inside our hearts with a world outside that feels often unsafe, biased and unfair. If we have ever tried to make clear sense of our lives, we probably have said, or even shouted, “Where are you, Lord?” Regardless of the mood we were in, asking or praying this plea may have mostly resulted in more quiet tears and confusion. I say this from my own experience. In fact, this missive is the result of my own confusion, pain and earnest desire to know the truth of God on a daily basis. I used one guiding Light based on one single truth: “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) I wanted to know and feel a reliable relationship with God that was not slanted by my ego needs or imagination. I wanted to trust His truth, and then be guided to live with a practical spirituality that was rooted in joy, love, peace and wisdom that could serve everyone. This book is my personal encounter. It is not meant to be blindly accepted or rejected only shared. Each reader is encouraged to find his/her own way, so to speak. These pages are meant to provide a practical way to hear the inner Voice that is within all of us and to learn how to trust it and follow it. This inner Voice is always a gentle whisper of love and peace. It is steady and unwavering. It is reliable. It is permanent.
