Making Sense Of The Divine Name In The Book Of Exodus written by Austin Surls and has been published by Penn State Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-01 with Religion categories.

The obvious riddles and difficulties in Exod 3:13–15 and Exod 6:2–8 have attracted an overwhelming amount of attention and comment. These texts make important theological statements about the divine name YHWH and the contours of the divine character. From the enigmatic statements in Exod 3:13–15, most scholars reconstruct the original form of the name as “Yahweh,” which is thought to describe YHWH’s creative power or self-existence. Similarly, Exod 6:3 has become a classic proof-text for the Documentary Hypothesis and an indication of different aspects of God’s character as shown in history. Despite their seeming importance for “defining” the divine name, these texts are ancillary to and preparatory for the true revelation of the divine name in the book of Exodus. This book attempts to move beyond atomistic readings of individual texts and etymological studies of the divine name toward a holistic reading of the book of Exodus. Surls centers his argument around in-depth analyses of Exod 3:13–15, 6:2–8 and Exod 33:12–23 and 34:5–8. Consequently, the definitive proclamation of YHWH’s character is not given at the burning bush but in response to Moses’ later intercession (Exod 33:12–23). YHWH proclaimed his name in a formulaic manner that Israel could appropriate (Exod 34:6–7), and the Hebrew Bible quotes or alludes to this text in many genres. This demonstrates the centrality of Exod 34:6–7 to Old Testament Theology. The character of God cannot be discerned from an etymological analysis of the word yhwh but from a close study of YHWH’s deliberate ascriptions made progressively in the book of Exodus.

The Divine Sense written by A. N. Williams and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-01 with Religion categories.

A. N. Williams examines the conception of the intellect in patristic theology from its beginnings in the work of the Apostolic Fathers to Augustine and Cassian in the early fifth century. The patristic notion of intellect emerges from its systematic relations to other components of theology: the relation of human mind to the body and the will; the relation of the human to the divine intellect; of human reason to divine revelation and secular philosophy; and from the use of the intellect in both theological reflection and spiritual contemplation. The patristic conception of that intellect is therefore important for the way it signals the character of early Christian theology as both systematic and contemplative and as such, distinctive in its approach from secular philosophies of its time and modern Christian theology.

A Sense Of The Divine written by James M. Gustafson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Nature categories.

God may have other plans than just our welfare, and this position leads us to consider that humanity should be putting its efforts into living within nature rather than trying to control it. And a part of that living within nature is learning how to respect and appreciate it - perhaps even bringing to that respect and admiration a sense of awe and wonder. The book also contains a foreword by Frederick Blumer and appendixes, the latter containing two responses to Gustafson's work. Clear and reasonable and deeply felt, A Sense of the Divine has the power to engage the heart as well as the mind. It invites the reader into a new oneness with all things, a oneness with which our destiny is inextricably woven.

The Divine In Husserl And Other Explorations written by Angela Ales Bello and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-11-07 with Philosophy categories.

In the first part of The Divine in Husserl and Other Explorations a description is provided of Husserl’s method in order to explain how he deals with the question of God from a philosophical perspective. The results from this investigation are compared with the main contributions of the philosophers of the past. The second part focuses on the theme of religion as developed by Husserl in order to grasp the meaning of religious lived-experiences. Through an archeological excavation Husserl teaches us how to go to the bottom of the sacred and the divine in order to pinpoint their features and to comprehend their religious configurations in history. In the third part one can find the application of husserlian hyletics and noetics to the field of the archaic sacred and of the different religious experiences. Some particular themes are treated such as ecstasy, contemplation, incarnation, and the relationship between the human being and the God from a philosophical and a religious point of view.
