Excerpt from A Series of Meditations on the Ethical and Psychical Relation of Spirit to the Human Organism A spirit in whom an uncontrollable desire for reincarnation has been awakened has been known to hover for years about a mother who is sensitive to its expression, awaiting a favorable opportunity for incarnation, never departing except when all hope has through this avenue been lost. And such persistence is justifiable on the general plea that a way of escape from lower to higher spirit conditions is afforded. There are tens of thousands of self-help books on psychology and human relationships; however, there are very few that integrate the topics of the soul and spirit into the picture. Most books on this subject focus on personality-level self-actualization. The new wave in the field of psychology is transpersonal or soul psychology, which will lead to monadic psychology for the more advanced students of the path. The entire understanding of psychology is completely changed when the soul is properly integrated. It has been said that personality-level self-actualization brings happiness, soul-level self-actualization brings joy, and monadic- and spiritual-level self-actualization bring bliss.

Excerpt from The Spirit: The Relation of God and Man, Considered From the Standpoint of Recent Philosophy and Science "My wish is that I may perceive God, whom I find everywhere in the external world, in like manner within and inside me." Kepler. "I cannot but think that the reformation in our day, which I expect to be more deep and searching than that of the sixteenth century, will turn upon the Spirit's presence and life, as that did upon the Justification by the Son." F. D. Maurice. "The traditional doctrine of the Holy Spirit, neglected by the early theologians of the Church, even when the creeds were still in the formative period of their existence, has remained until this day in the background of inquiry, both for the theologians and for the philosophers. A favourite target for hostile, although often inarticulate, criticism on the part of the opponents of tradition, and a frequent object of reverential, but confessedly problematic and often very vague, exposition on the part of the defenders of the faith, - the article of the creed regarding the Holy Spirit is, I believe, the one matter about which most who discuss the problem of Christianity have least to say in the way of definite theory. Yet, if I am right, this is, in many respects, the really distinctive and therefore the capital article of the Christian creed, so far as that creed suggests a theory of the divine nature. This article, then, should be understood, if the spirit of Christianity, in its most human and vital of features, is to be understood at all. And this article should be philosophically expounded and defended, if any distinctively Christian article of the creed is to find a foundation in a rationally defensible metaphysical theory of the universe." Tort Custom And Karma written by David Engel and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-12 with Law categories.

Diverse societies are now connected by globalization, but how do ordinary people feel about law as they cope day-to-day with a transformed world? Tort, Custom, and Karma examines how rapid societal changes, economic development, and integration into global markets have affected ordinary people's perceptions of law, with a special focus on the narratives of men and women who have suffered serious injuries in the province of Chiangmai, Thailand. This work embraces neither the conventional view that increasing global connections spread the spirit of liberal legalism, nor its antithesis that backlash to interconnection leads to ideologies such as religious fundamentalism. Instead, it looks specifically at how a person's changing ideas of community, legal justice, and religious belief in turn transform the role of law particularly as a viable form of redress for injury. This revealing look at fundamental shifts in the interconnections between globalization, state law, and customary practices uncovers a pattern of increasing remoteness from law that deserves immediate attention.

Excerpt from The Ethics of Spiritualism: A System of Moral Philosophy, Founded on Evolution and the Continuity of Man's Existence Beyond the Grave Along this causeway have been waged the mighty battles of the ages, fought over again in' the life of every indi vidual. It is the war between the animal side of man's nature and the spiritual. As the race has unfolded, gath ering higher and clearer perceptions of right, truth and justice, age after age, the gain has been on the side of the spiritual. As in the individual, the brute forces of the de sires have been co-ordinated Wlth the moral and spiritual perceptions. Because of this evolution, is there conflict between the two sides of man's nature. Because he is an ammal physi cally, is there war between his physical and his spiritual tendencies. To harmonize this apparent anom aly, by which the aspirations of an angel are linked with the passions of a devrl, has been the primary object of all systems of theology. The existence of these spiritual aspirations indicated the innate purity of the spirit and its primal perfection. That it was, in fact, so prone to fly to the ungoverned selfishness and lust of brutes, indicated a fallen and depraved state. The dogmas growing out of this erroneous view were also dependent on equally false ideas of God. A perfect, infinite and good God, would not create an imperfect man. His creation would be in his own image. Man was far from perfect. His imperfection was the result of sin and wicked ness. As his Creator does not wish him to sin, he sins from choice. His free agency shifts the burden of responsi bility from God to himself. Created perfect, he has sinned by choice, and became depraved through and by means of his own wickedness. He has corrupted himself. To escape the infinite consequences, he must have fa1th in a verbal revelation and a certain scheme of redemption. Immortality is not the result of immutable laws, and has no relation to the constitution of things. Men reared in this belief, when they cast it aside are often unbalanced.
