Albert Raboteau was born into a Catholic family in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, three months after his father was shot and killed by a white man. It was during the 1940s, when blacks couldn't swim at the same beach as whites, when the priest gave communion to white Catholics first and made others wait. In a moving account of his life, Raboteau tells how the boy grew into a man, married, became a success as a college administrator, then learned sorrow, lost his way and had to start over again. His is an American spiritual journey that is redolent of sacramental Christianity marking the sacredness of time, place, and community. The journey brought him to a conversation that reconciled him to his own past, including his religious heritage, his African roots, and his family members. In the end his spiritual quest became a journey home, to a human circle that opened to him and brought him to God.

Surviving With Joy is a true story detailing God's complete love. The tragic events which took place in my life are, unfortunately, not the first or last times for these types of worldly trials. Yearly, many families are faced with the loss of a child. For my family, this tragedy has been endured on three occasions. But, by the grace of God, we have endured and now lead a life of abundant joy through the love and truth of Jesus Christ. Jesus states in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." Satan is the thief. Satan brought death into this world and is the very reason that I am separated from three of my children today. However, Jesus overcame death with His life. He lives today and will help you recover from grief, especially that of your child, but you have to accept all that He has to offer to enjoy His life of abundance. Surviving With Joy explains how Jesus helped me and my family. He is waiting to help you, too.

Blessed Are The Organized written by Jeffrey Stout and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-09 with Political Science categories.

How ordinary citizens band together to bring about real change In an America where the rich and fortunate have free rein to do as they please, can the ideal of liberty and justice for all be anything but an empty slogan? Many Americans are doubtful, and have withdrawn into apathy and cynicism. But thousands of others are not ready to give up on democracy just yet. Working outside the notice of the national media, ordinary citizens across the nation are meeting in living rooms, church basements, synagogues, and schools to identify shared concerns, select and cultivate leaders, and take action. Their goal is to hold big government and big business accountable. In this important new book, Jeffrey Stout bears witness to the successes and failures of progressive grassroots organizing, and the daunting forces now arrayed against it. Stout tells vivid stories of people fighting entrenched economic and political interests around the country. From parents and teachers striving to overcome gang violence in South Central Los Angeles, to a Latino priest north of the Rio Grande who brings his parish into a citizens' organization, to the New Orleans residents who get out the vote by taking a jazz band through streets devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Stout describes how these ordinary people conceive of citizenship, how they acquire and exercise power, and how religious ideas and institutions contribute to their successes. The most important book on organizing and grassroots democracy in a generation, Blessed Are the Organized is a passionate and hopeful account of how our endangered democratic principles can be put into action.

Five For Sorrow Ten For Joy written by J. Neville Ward and has been published by Church Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-09-01 with Religion categories.

Since earliest times Christians have used pebbles, a string of knots, or beads on a cord to keep track of their prayers, and prayer beads can be found in virtually every major religious tradition in the world. Anglicans and other Protestants have also begun to use the rosary to help refresh a life of prayer--it creates a rhythm that helps wean us from our distractions and focus our attention so that we can more readily move into God's presence. As the beads and prayers recede into the background, the mysteries that make up the rosary come into our minds and hearts like religious pictures or icons. First published in 1975, J. Neville Ward's unusual collection of meditations offer an entirely new approach to the rosary for all Christians. He begins with its traditional use and then offers fifteen insights into the life of Jesus and his mother Mary that can speak to us today. Thus a meditation on the sorrowful themes reminds us of the suffering that is so much a part of our own lives, while the joyful and glorious mysteries speak of the desire for faith, hope, and love that will heal them. These reflections serve up a rich spiritual repast for Christians seeking new contemplative practices and learning to pray with the rosary.

Enjoy these SAMPLE pages from Joys and Tears- This book presents a biblical and practical look at the emotions of Christians, building on the concept that most contemporary Christians have misconceptions about why we have emotions and how we should handle them. Trusting God doesn't mean being consistently tranquil or subdued. Truth is, such a view makes life flat and two dimensional. We often forget that emotions are a gift; to fear them or stow them away would be to deny a huge part of what makes us human. This book explores the significance of the gift and the benefits of living a robust life of thought, action, and feeling. Illuminating the emotional life of Christ and his followers, Dr. Gerald Peterman asks: •If I'm forgiven, why do I feel guilt and shame? •What about anger? What if I'm angry with God?•What is the place of sadness in the Christian life?•Is love only an action? Emotions don't just happen to us like the virus or the flu; they are inherently part of us. Readers will find that the discussion extends beyond "good" and "bad," as many emotions are neutral and it is up to them to figure out how to glorify God with them. Extended chapters on love and anger are included.
