Named a BEST BOOK by People Magazine, Boston Globe, BookBub, PopSugar, CrimeReads and more. “Brilliant…. A well-crafted psychological thriller.” —The New York Times Book Review When former journalist Rain Winter was twelve years old, she narrowly escaped an abduction while walking to a friend’s house. The abductor was eventually found and sent to prison, but years later was released. Then someone delivered real justice--and killed him in cold blood. Now Rain is living the perfect suburban life, spending her days as a stay-at-home mom. But when another criminal who escaped justice is found dead, Rain is unexpectedly drawn into the case, forced to revisit memories she’s worked hard to leave behind. Is there a vigilante at work? Who is the next target? Why can’t Rain just let it go? Introducing one of the most compelling and original killers in crime fiction today, Lisa Unger takes readers deep inside the minds of both perpetrator and victim, blurring the lines between right and wrong, crime and justice, and showing that sometimes even good people are drawn to do evil things. Don't miss The New Couple in 5B, Lisa Unger's newest psychological thriller about a couple that inherits an apartment with a truly chilling past. Looking for more spine-tingling thrillers? The article you are about to read is my overwhelming desire to express my thoughts on the subject of controlled gamblers vs. the compulsive gamblers. Gambling appears to be providing a very lucrative source of income for the United States and other states besides Nevada and New Jersey. Gambling was introduced to Atlantic City back in the later part of the nineteen seventies. In addition, there is world wide gambling that is enjoyed by vacationers or via the internet (extremely addictive). Several gamblers can control their gambling and can stop. However, there are those gamblers who “cannot” control their desire to gamble and become “Compulsive Gamblers.”

Do you know me, or am I a stranger within? When the Lord asked me this question, it changed my life forever. I heard Christians say there was nothing like intimacy with the Lord. I didnt understand what that meant. I asked spiritually mature Christians to instruct me in the ways of Lord so that I might know Him. They consistently said pray, study the Word, be obedient to the Word, and live a sanctified life. Thus began my pursuit of intimacy with the Lord. I made mistakes during my pursuit; I tried to know Christ through other Christiansbig mistake. I decided to pray and study the Word daily, obey His commands, and live a holy life. Out of that obedience came a longing to know Christ and to make Him known to others. God has a place within us where we are to meet with Him daily through His Word and prayer. Humanity has tried to fill that place with drugs, alcohol, porn, women, men, etc.failing to realize the Lord created that special place just for Himself. The road to knowing the Lord is a journey that must be traveled alone. This book can help you find keys and principles to assist you. Stranger Within seeks to help those who want to look like Jesus, who want to walk in the truth of Gods Word, and who want minister in the power of Gods Spirit.

Increasing numbers of people now receive a higher education. Yet we still do not have that ‘educated public’ about which the philosopher, Alasdair MacIntyre, wrote two decades ago. The stranger within: On the idea of an educated public reflects on this situation, regarding the future shape of the university as a kind of public sphere in exile and a site of social and cultural interpenetration. At its centre is a revaluation of the Scottish tradition of ‘democratic intellectualism’, highlighted by George Davie in his book The democratic intellect (1961). Davie charts the gradual extinction in the Scottish universities of a type of higher education which encouraged breadth of study, public engagement and, through the compulsory study of philosophy, a concern with theory and ideas. The stranger within: On the idea of an educated public seeks to reframe this Scottish tradition and its associated ideal of an educated public in light of recent debates concerning cultural difference, the nation, imperialism and globalisation. It investigates how the radical social purpose inherent in the democratic intellect tradition might be re-vitalised to become a feature of higher education and of a more broadly based popular education worldwide. The book is underpinned by philosophical, social and cultural studies and it draws specifically on radical adult education practices related to social movements and to liberating knowledge ‘from below’. It should be a valuable resource for academics from different disciples who wish to communicate across disciplines about key issues of the day; to managers in higher education who wish to counteract the fragmentation of disciplines; and to adult, community and lifelong education workers, and members of the wider public who seek strategies to counter current educational and ‘lifelong learning’ orthodoxies.

The Stranger Within is a collection of poems that reflect upon the thoughts, emotions, and observations of a wife and a caretaker, from early stages of Alzheimers to death. It shares accounts of how a soul suffering from a disease is transformed into a shell, losing all ability to communicate, show emotion, and enjoy the loved ones who continue to care and provide support and dignity to life. The Stranger Within is a chronological outpouring of a wifes innermost thoughts, fears, frustration, and anger as she learns to deal with how this disease turns her, her lover, the family, and friends into victims, as it slowly steals away the life of everyone in one way or another. Alzheimers disease attacks everyone who is diagnosed at different stages in their lives, but it seems to attack in same manner and ultimately ends with the same result. During this process, these souls all in some way become a stranger to those who see them, but it is unknown what is happening in the mind of that person within. The Stranger Within, through each poem, provides insight or comfort to those who are either beginning, currently living, or who have ended their journey with Alzheimers and the stranger that came into their lives.

A woman returns home to find a stranger living in her house in this "suspenseful and moving" psychological drama from an Edgar Award-nominated author (Meg Gardiner) -- perfect for readers of Shari Lapena and Liane Moriarty. There's a stranger living in Kimber Hannon's house. He tells the police that he has every right to be there, and he has the paperwork to prove it. But Kimber definitely didn't invite this man to move in. He tells her that he knows something about her, and he wants everyone else to know it, too. "I was there. I saw what you did." These words reveal a connection to Kimber's distant past, and dark secrets she'd long ago left buried. This trespasser isn't after anything as simple as her money or her charming Craftsman bungalow. He wants to move into her carefully orchestrated life -- and destroy it.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality—not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own. “A meditation on solitude, wildness and survival.” —The Wall Street Journal In 1986, a shy and intelligent twenty-year-old named Christopher Knight left his home in Massachusetts, drove to Maine, and disappeared into the forest. He would not have a conversation with another human being until nearly three decades later, when he was arrested for stealing food. Living in a tent even through brutal winters, he had survived by his wits and courage, developing ingenious ways to store edibles and water, and to avoid freezing to death. He broke into nearby cottages for food, clothing, reading material, and other provisions, taking only what he needed but terrifying a community never able to solve the mysterious burglaries. Based on extensive interviews with Knight himself, this is a vividly detailed account of his secluded life—why did he leave? what did he learn?—as well as the challenges he has faced since returning to the world. It is a gripping story of survival that asks fundamental questions about solitude, community, and what makes a good life, and a deeply moving portrait of a man who was determined to live his own way, and succeeded.
