Show Excerpt _La Belle Dame Sans Merci_, and nearly all his famous odes. Troubles however beset him. His friend Haydon was in difficulties and tormenting him, poor as he was, to lend him money; the state of his throat gave serious cause for alarm; and, above all, he was consumed by an unsatisfying passion for the daughter of a neighbour, Mrs. Brawne. She had rented Brown's house whilst they were in Scotland, and had now moved to a street near by. Miss Fanny Brawne returned his love, but she seems never to have understood his nature or his needs. High-spirited and fond of pleasure she did not apparently allow the thought of her invalid lover to interfere much with her enjoyment of life. She would not, however, abandon her engagement, and she probably gave him all which it was in her nature to give. Ill-health made him, on the other hand, morbidly dissatisfied and suspicious; and, as a result of his illness and her limitations, his love throughout brought him restlessness and torment rather than peace and comfort.

A Washington Post Best Book of the Year A captivating memoir of one woman’s long journey to late transition, as the trans community emerges alongside her. “Achingly beautiful.” —Manuel Betancourt, The New York Times Book Review Long before Laverne Cox appeared on the cover of Time, far removed from drag and ballroom culture, there were countless trans women living and dying as men, most of whom didn’t even know they were trans. Diana Goetsch’s This Body I Wore chronicles one woman’s long journey to coming out, a path that runs parallel to the emergence of the trans community over the past several decades. “How can you spend your life face-to-face with an essential fact about yourself and still not see it?” This is a question often asked of trans people, and a question that Goetsch, an award-winning poet and essayist, addresses with the power and complexity of lived reality. She brings us into her childhood, her time as a dynamic and beloved teacher at New York City’s Stuyvesant High School, and her plunge into the city’s crossdressing subculture in the 1980s and ’90s. Under cover of night, crossdressers risked their jobs and their safety to give expression to urges they could neither control nor understand. Many would become late transitioners, the Cinderellas of the trans community largely ignored by history. Goetsch has written not a transition memoir, but rather a full account of a trans life, one both unusually public and closeted. All too often trans lives are reduced to before-and-after photos, but what if that before photo lasted fifty years?

Lily Harford is nearing the end of her once joyful life - and for her, it can't come soon enough. Who will have the courage, kindness and love to grant her last request? A compassionate and heartfelt story for readers of Jodi Picoult, Tricia Stringer and Fiona Lowe. Knowing she is sliding into dementia, Lily Harford is ready to give up her life ... but can she persuade someone to commit the illegal act of taking it from her? Lily has lived a joyful, independent life in a seaside town in Queensland, running her own business and raising a daughter as a single mother at a time when few women did so. Now health and circumstance have pushed her into a nursing home, and her memory is failing, although events of the past remain fresh. Like pulling back the layers of a Russian doll, Lily recalls the former selves - mother, professional woman, lover, daughter - who still exist inside her. Lily's daughter, Pauline, has been pushed to her limits by her demanding job, as well as the needs of her mother, husband, daughter and grandchildren. And now her mother is begging to die. Nurse aide Donna, still recovering from a dysfunctional childhood and the demise of her marriage, finds comfort in Lily's kindness and down to earth wisdom. As Lily fades, she asks Donna, too, to help her end her life. A thought-provoking, vivid and moving exploration of how we value a life well lived, and the decisions we make when that life is coming to an end. PRAISE 'Joanna Buckley has done an excellent job weaving a highly sensitive issue into a tale with great humanity.' - The Weekend Australian 'This exquisitely written story reels you in ... I highly recommend this wonderful book.' - Better Reading

Bunky cannot wait for the summer holidays! Soon, his entire family, including cousin Rodney, his little Wolf Plum, and Bunky's best friend, Rosalia, travel to the North Pole in order to visit Santa Claus. During their stay at the North Pole, Bunky will have to challenge himself while diligently studying for the Golden Decimal Mathematical Contest. As a result, he will learn more about himself and about the mysterious ways in which one's noble dreams come true. Eventually, he will also encounter the Northern Star. Bunky and the Summer Wish is a story about perseverance, personal integrity, self-acceptance, and finding one's true worth and inner strength in a world seemingly dominated by competition. While Bunky makes a wish upon a star on a warm summer evening, he also makes a solemn promise to do everything in his might to impress those whom he loves the most--especially his beloved Rosalia. Throughout the story, he will learn more about his true value as a person and discover the importance of holding on to one's dreams while having faith in the righteousness of one's heart. It is the story of an imperfect yet noble hero--the story of almost every reader.
