The total difference of the two " aspects" (required by their parallelism) denies to them the common element indispensable for their unification in reality. Is it said, they have at all events existence in common? Yes, but not existence in the sense needed for securing the singleness asserted. When you affirm of Substance as one, that it has two " aspects," you assign to the " aspects," as phenomena, an existence other than that which you assign to substance: what suffices for the former does not suffice for the latter. But it is the phenomenal existence only which the " aspects," as such, have in common; it is incompetent, therefore, to constitute substantive unity. Besides, it is not enough for the " aspects" to have " existence" in common: " existence" (in order to satisfy the account of " attribute ") must have them in common, ...
