School climate and culture, and its relevance to student achievement has traditionally been a topic of discussion among educators. There have been many research studies dedicated to determining if a school's culture and climate had an effect on student achievement. This study sought to determine if teachers' perceptions of school culture and climate had an impact on student achievement at the elementary and secondary level. In 1963, Halpin and Croft began their research on the organizational climate of schools and suggested that further research be conducted based on their findings. This research sought to determine if there was a relationship between teachers' perceptions of school culture and climate and students' marking period/trimester 1 grades, teachers' perceptions of school culture and climate and students' Start Strong scores, and teachers' perceptions of school culture and climate and school leadership. The New Jersey School Climate Survey was distributed to teachers in four small school districts in Warren County, NJ. Survey data was collected from a total of 62 respondents, and academic data was provided to the researcher on coded spreadsheets. Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation tests and independent sample t-tests through the use of the SPSS program in order to determine if any potential relationships existed. The data revealed that teachers' perceptions of school culture and climate did not have an impact on student achievement. Additionally, there were a number of relationships that existed with regard to teachers' perceptions of culture and climate and school leadership. The results indicated that the high school respondents answered less favorably compared to the elementary school respondents on the school leadership survey questions. This study may help school leaders have constructive conversations with their staff with regard to the school's culture and climate.(ProQuest abstract).

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of leadership and organizational climate on the student academic achievement. The study also investigated the moderating influence of parental involvement on to the influence of school leadership and climate on the student academic achievement. This research was conducted in the public schools in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The study was designed to investigate research questions, as; 1). Do school leadership and climate make a change on the student academic achievement? 2). How does parental involvement contribute to interplay of school leadership and climate on student academic achievement? Based on the extant literature reviewed in this study, altogether thirteen hypotheses were framed including three mediation and three modern moderation hypotheses. The usable dataset in this study consisted of 304 teachers who were teaching in Grade 10, 11, and 12, at the time of the study in public schools of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi, who filled in the survey questionnaire for leadership, organizational climate, parental involvement, and student academic achievement. The demographic details of the sample in this study consisted of 137 male respondents (45.10%) and 167 female respondents (54.90%). Furthermore, the researcher used statistical software - the SPSS (Statistical package of Social Sciences) version 24 and the AMOS (Analysis of a Moment Structures) version 24 - to empirically test the hypotheses of this study. The results obtained for the direct impact suggest that school organizational climate, transactional, and transformational leadership positively and significantly influences the student academic achievements as both are positive and significant. However, the influence of the parental involvement on student academic achievement was not found to be significant. On the other hand, transformational leadership and school climate were found to positively and significantly influence the involvement the students' parent, whereas the influence of the transactional leadership on the parental involvement of the students were found to be non-significant. Furthermore, the results of the study indicate that parental involvement does not significantly mediate influence of leadership and school climate of the student academic achievement. As for the moderation analysis, the results of the study indicate that parental involvement positively and significantly moderate on to the influence of school climate and transformational leadership than transactional leadership on the student academic achievement. Previous studies in this domain are still in the developmental phase since not all studies were found to hae [sic] a moderating influence of parental involvement on transformational leadership and school organizational climate on the academic achievements of students. Therefore, the findings of this study hint at a significant scope for future researches in this domain. Overall, the study does point out that transactional leadership, transformational leadership and school climate than parental involvement directly influences student academic achievements. However, the parental involvement was found to moderate rather than mediate on the influence of transformational leadership and school organizational climate on students' academic achievement. The results of the study were discussed under the light of the past researches in the field. This study advances theory and practice on student academic achievement. The findings of this study have key policy implications and they have been discussed in details. This study discusses limitations and future direction for research in the context of student academic achievement in the public schools in Emirates of Abu Dhabi in particular, and the Gulf Coordination Council (GCC) in general.

This book focuses on the effect of psychological, social and demographic variables on student achievement and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret student achievement literature and suggests new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the authors compile various studies examining the relationship between student achievement and 21 psychological, social and demographic variables separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

An investigation into the relationship of organizational climate and academic optimism as predictors of student achievement and school effectiveness was conducted. De-identified secondary data from 67 elementary schools in the Northern portion of Alabama were used. The instrumentation for this study included School Academic Optimism Survey (SAOS), Organizational Climate Index (OCI), the Index of Perceived Organizational Effectiveness (IPOE) which is now known as the SE Index (School Effectiveness Index), a composite score for Academic Achievement (AA), and socioeconomic status (SES). Ordinary Least Squares Block Regression method was used to test the effects of the independent variables separately and together on school effectiveness and academic achievement. The results suggested that all variables had a moderate correlation with each other. Also, when controlling for SES both optimism and climate served as independent predictors for achievement and effectiveness. When entered into a regression model together while controlling for SES, climate predicted achievement while optimism did not. This was likely due to the small sample size as compared to the number of predictors in the model. Both climate and optimism served as predictors for effectiveness when in the regression model. The results of this study lend further support to the importance of School Academic Optimism and Organizational Climate as predictors of academic achievement and organizational effectiveness.

When trying to solve the problems of education, critics most often look at curriculum content and teaching techniques, rather than at the environments in which students learn. Yet these learning environments have an important impact on student achievement. This book reviews the existing literature and knowledge about school environments as it relates to educational effectiveness and student achievement. The authors then integrate the material into a simple, yet inclusive, conceptual framework that is useful for policymakers, practitioners and researchers.
