A tempered and humane economy finds a balance between the market principle, “economic reward follows economic contribution,” and the family economic principle, “respect abilities, respect needs.” Markets are tempered by the wisdom gained from family experiences in the way that steel is iron tempered by fire. A humane economy meets the needs and aspirations of all persons in the way that a well-tempered musical instrument allows for the playing of music in every key without discord. A Tempered and Humane Economy:Markets, Families, and Behavioral Economicsargues that economists must incorporate the insights of behavioral economics into their reflections on micro- and macro-economic policy. The elephant in the room is how Americans are increasingly raising their children with an appropriate sense of entitlement and empowerment by involving them in decision making at home. We raise our children to find or create a job they will love, expecting that will make them highly productive. Not all children have these advantages, a problem we tackle head on, but enough of them do to create a critical mass of young adults who will transform our economy in a positive way for persons everywhere along the income distribution. Our vision for the U.S. Economy is one of tempered optimism and humane prosperity.

“A Humane Economy is like a seminar on integral freedom conducted by a professor of uncommon brilliance.” —Wall Street Journal “If any person in our contemporary world is entitled to a hearing it is Wilhelm Röpke.” —New York Times A Humane Economy offers one of the most accessible and compelling explanations of how economies operate ever written. The masterwork of the great twentieth-century economist Wilhelm Röpke, this book presents a sweeping, brilliant exposition of market mechanics and moral philosophy. Röpke cuts through the jargon and statistics that make most economic writing so obscure and confusing. Over and over, the great Swiss economist stresses one simple point: you cannot separate economic principles from human behavior. Röpke’s observations are as relevant today as when they were first set forth a half century ago. He clearly demonstrates how those societies that have embraced free-market principles have achieved phenomenal economic success—and how those that cling to theories of economic centralization endure stagnation and persistent poverty. A Humane Economy shows how economic processes and government policies influence our behavior and choices—to the betterment or detriment of life in those vital and highly fragile human structures we call communities. “It is the precept of ethical and humane behavior, no less than of political wisdom,” Röpke reminds us, “to adapt economic policy to man, not man to economic policy.”

Metaeconomics written by Gary D. Lynne and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-13 with Psychology categories.

This book presents the Metaeconomics Framework and Dual Interest Theory, which weave the empathy-based moral and ethical dimension back into key economic questions. Metaeconomics addresses the problem of placing too much emphasis on the market or the government, and thus argues that seeing the link between ego and empathy, self- and other-interest, and market and government will lead to a more just, fair, and sustainable polity. The unique Dual Interest Theory proposes that ego-based self-interest and empathy-based other-interest are joint and internal to each person: it maintains the original proposition from Adam Smith that each person maximizes their own-interest, which Metaeconomics makes clear involves balancing the two joint interests, although self-interest is more primal. The book begins with an explanation of how Metaeconomics connects the other kinds of economics. The book then provides a series of applications of Metaeconomics in heated policy issues, such as elections, finance, family, food, health, natural resources, education, taxes, and extreme inequality, among others. Finally, the book concludes that the only way to save capitalism is to bring empathy into both private and public actions and bring about a more humane balance in market and government.

The Good Society written by John Kenneth Galbraith and has been published by Boston : Houghton Mifflin Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Consumption (Economics) categories.

"In this tightly argued and eloquent book, the preeminent economist John Kenneth Galbraith presents the blueprint for a society that is compassionate to the less fortunate and economically feasible for all. He points the way toward the achievable goals for a "good society": personal liberty, basic well-being, racial and ethnic equality, and the opportunity for a rewarding life. However, this is no utopian approach to the economic challenges facing America; Galbraith recognizes human weakness, differences in ability and motivation, and the formidable obstacles facing those who challenge the status quo. Still, Galbraith's optimism shines through as he explains how we could establish a more humane world by shedding today's conventional wisdom about inflation, the deficit, taxes, and immigration, and by recognizing the immense value of education and environmental responsibility and the political action that the good society demands."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
