"The entire town is disguised," declared a French tourist of eighteenth-century Venice. And, indeed, maskers of all ranks—nobles, clergy, imposters, seducers, con men—could be found mixing at every level of Venetian society. Even a pious nun donned a mask and male attire for her liaison with the libertine Casanova. In Venice Incognito, James H. Johnson offers a spirited analysis of masking in this carnival-loving city. He draws on a wealth of material to explore the world view of maskers, both during and outside of carnival, and reconstructs their logic: covering the face in public was a uniquely Venetian response to one of the most rigid class hierarchies in European history. This vivid account goes beyond common views that masking was about forgetting the past and minding the muse of pleasure to offer fresh insight into the historical construction of identity.

How do you teach young children about being born again (John 3:3), and conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:29)? This is the children's story of Umiko, a daughter born in the ugly town of Minikui, just below the beautiful mountain. She always thought she was ugly, and her parents even told her she was. But one day the Emperor’s son Kioshi came to town to choose for himself a bride. But Umiko thought she was too ugly to ever be chosen by the Emperor’s son, and the town was filled with daughters far more lovely than she was. And so she hid herself behind a mask. This is the first fully illustrated children's book by Puritan Publications teaching the doctrine of conversion to young children. It also includes a Bible study section at the end of the work for adults to aid them in teaching their children the major themes of the book.

Traditional Masks of Sri Lanka., Masks of Sri Lanka: If you are driving through the South Western coastal belt of Sri Lanka, you are bound to pass through the town of Ambalangoda which is well known for its mask making industry. The history of masks that are unique to Sri Lanka dates back to the 1800's which were used to portray various characters in popular folk tales and for devil dancing.Sri Lanka has inherited and been influenced by these traditions of mask making and devil dancing mainly from the cities of Kerala and Malabar in India while Sri Lankan artisans have managed to incorporate more decorative techniques and colour in the masks that are manufactured today. The craft of mask making has been perfected over the years and craftsmen have been able to provide new and improved designs when compared to the ones that were found in ancient Sri Lanka. Other than devil dancing, there have been evidences that masks were used in a form of dancing during the early times in Ceylon.Currently, the art of mask making is concentrated among a few families who reside in Ambalangoda, Wathugedara and Benthara as well as some parts along the Western coast. This craftsmanship has been passed from generations within the same families and has been a family trade since its introduction. The timber that is used to make these decorative and colourful masterpieces should always be light and durable and therefore trees such as "Rukkattana" and "Diyakanduru" are used.CONTAIN: Chapter 01: Tourist information about AmbalangodaChapter 02: The Mask Museum in AmbalangodaChapter 03: SANNI YAKUMAChapter 04: Most Popular Items for Sri Lankan MaskChapter 05: Heritage of MasksChapter 06: Masks Art GalleryCopyright (c)2019 By KG GAYAN SANJAYA (Author)

Revolution came in different stages in the gradual development of the brain in humans. The entire focus, instead of betterment of life got diverted to living a self-absorbed and narcissistic life at the cost of others. Ambitions turned into hatred, revenge, and self-sustenance by killing. Revolutions gave more and more weapons in the hands of humans to wipe out everything that they did not want. It became a race of massacres, which became only a number without any value. Industrial Revolution, meant for comfort, peace, and harmony, turned into a competition to see who had more. Right from the Mahabharat War around 3500 B.C. and then World Wars I & II, the top leaders of the world took pride in devastation and killing. A man never looked at a woman as a human being and used her as an object to satisfy his lust. Torturing other humans was enjoyed over a toast of wine. Dharma, the righteous path explained in the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita, and then the Ten Commandments, is grossly misunderstood, misinterpreted, and distorted. They taught sacrifice and virtues, and order that will make life and the universe possible. Even nature was not spared. “Selfishness” has become the order of the day. What is the view of the young?
