The Tragic Hero through Ages is an illuminating work on the greatest Greek and English tragedies and their heroes. The first chapter deals with the Greek tragedies and their heroes. The next three chapters study the outstanding pre-Shakespearean, Shakespearean and post-Shakespearean tragedies and their heroes. The Miltonic and the Byronic heroes have been studied in fifth and sixth chapters, respectively. The closing chapter summarizes the whole work and many undiscovered facts have been brought to light. It is genuine contribution to the whole theory of Greek and English tragic drama. It embodies the most famous speeches and best scenes from the greatest Greek and English Tragedies: their short summaries and the lifelike portraits of their heroes. It is a running commentary on the Greek and English tragic drama, spreading over a span of 2500 years with all its charm and grandeur. It is a colossal work with the finish of an exquisite piece of jewellery.

Until now the three novels written by Daniel Fuchs in the 1930s have received critical attention primarily as Jewish or Depression-period writing. Pointing up the limitations of this perspective, this study demonstrates Fuch's distinctive merging of epistemological and artistic skepticism, and investigates the dynamics of his offering social criticism while he subverts the univocality of any position.

This book focuses on the Biafran humanitarian crisis of 1967–1970 which generated a surge of human rights anxieties and attracted the attention of world humanitarian organizations. For the first time in recent history, different church groups and humanitarian activists around the world came together for the sole purpose of alleviating human suffering and saving lives regardless of theological differences, race, ethnic affiliation, nationality, and geographical distance. Despite their role in shaping the course and outcome of the conflict, most scholars of the Nigeria-Biafra War treat the humanitarian aspect of the war as a footnote, making it appear less important among other issues of interest in the conflict. Notable exceptions, however, include Joseph Thomson’s American Policy and African Famine, which focuses on American policy on the humanitarian aid, and Reverend Tony Byrne’s Airlift to Biafra. This study underlines that the international humanitarian aid largely contributed to the internationalization of the war. The efforts of the churches from thirty-three countries which remain virtually unexplored was not just the first of its kind in the developing world but also the largest civilian airlift in history. While the paucity of scholarship on the humanitarian aspect of the Biafra war could be attributed to the newness of this field of enquiry, the increase in conflicts in different parts of the world has just opened humanitarian aid studies as a new frontier in academic study. This book is a masterful example of scholarship in this newly emergent field.

Corneille virtually founded seventeenth-century French tragedy: Le Cid and the three subsequent tragedies gave the genre its models and much of its theory. Many critics have created a synthetic picture of "Cornelian heroism" by seeing these four plays as representative of all Corneille's work, thus neglecting the sixteen others that followed. Now the tide has turned: scholars are trying to analyse the meaning of Cornielle's work with close reference to historical events and political ideas.

Francois Hotman written by Donald R. Kelley and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-08 with History categories.

The lifetime of Francois Hotman (1524-1590) was one of the most tumultuous periods in European history. Donald R. Kelley shows how this protégé of Calvin and agent of many of the great Protestant princes became involved in ecclesiastical politics, Huguenot diplomacy, and conspiracy. One of the first modern revolutionaries, Hotman rebelled not only against his family and its faith, but against the laws and eventually the government of his country. As an embittered exile lie produced a voluminous body of propaganda aimed at recovering a lost political and religious innocence on which to found a new community. At the same time he was one of the greatest and most versatile scholars of his age, achieving distinction as a jurist, teacher, classical scholar, dialectician, theologian, and historian. His Franco-Giallia and Anti-Tribonian have fascinated generations of political theorists, and his letters, reports, and anonymous works are of inestimable value to historians. Originally published in 1973.
