Excerpt from A Treatise on the Calculus of Finite Differences As such Treatises as the present are in close connexion with the course of Mathematical Study at the University Of Cambridge, there is considerable difficulty in deciding the question how far they should aim at being exhaustive. I have held it best not to insert investigations that involve complicated analysis unless they possess great suggestiveness or are the bases Of important developments of the subject. Under the present system the premium on wide superficial reading is so great that such investigations, if inserted. This 1860 classic, written by one of the great mathematicians of the 19th century, was designed as a sequel to his Treatise on Differential Equations (1859). Divided into two sections ("Difference- and Sum-Calculus" and "Difference- and Functional Equations"), and containing more than 200 exercises (complete with answers), Boole discusses: . nature of the calculus of finite differences . direct theorems of finite differences . finite integration, and the summation of series . Bernoulli's number, and factorial coefficients . convergency and divergency of series . difference-equations of the first order . linear difference-equations with constant coefficients . mixed and partial difference-equations . and much more. No serious mathematician's library is complete without A Treatise on the Calculus of Finite Differences. English mathematician and logician GEORGE BOOLE (1814-1864) is best known as the founder of modern symbolic logic, and as the inventor of Boolean algebra, the foundation of the modern field of computer science. His other books include An Investigation of the Laws of Thought (1854).

Excerpt from A Treatise on Differential Equations, and on the Calculus of Finite Differences Every differential equation of the first order and degree is either the direct derived equation of a primitive; or it results from the combination of the derived equation with its primitive, so as to eliminate a constant which enters in each only to the first power; the former sort are called exact, the latter inexact. Linear Differential Equations And Oscillators written by Luis Manuel Braga da Costa Campos and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-05 with Mathematics categories.
Linear Differential Equations and Oscillators is the first book within Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications to Trajectories and Vibrations, Six-volume Set. As a set, they are the fourth volume in the series Mathematics and Physics Applied to Science and Technology. This first book consists of chapters 1 and 2 of the fourth volume. The first chapter covers linear differential equations of any order whose unforced solution can be obtained from the roots of a characteristic polynomial, namely those: (i) with constant coefficients; (ii) with homogeneous power coefficients with the exponent equal to the order of derivation. The method of characteristic polynomials is also applied to (iii) linear finite difference equations of any order with constant coefficients. The unforced and forced solutions of (i,ii,iii) are examples of some general properties of ordinary differential equations. The second chapter applies the theory of the first chapter to linear second-order oscillators with one degree-of-freedom, such as the mechanical mass-damper-spring-force system and the electrical self-resistor-capacitor-battery circuit. In both cases are treated free undamped, damped, and amplified oscillations; also forced oscillations including beats, resonance, discrete and continuous spectra, and impulsive inputs. Describes general properties of differential and finite difference equations, with focus on linear equations and constant and some power coefficients Presents particular and general solutions for all cases of differential and finite difference equations Provides complete solutions for many cases of forcing including resonant cases Discusses applications to linear second-order mechanical and electrical oscillators with damping Provides solutions with forcing including resonance using the characteristic polynomial, Green' s functions, trigonometrical series, Fourier integrals and Laplace transforms

Classical Orthogonal Polynomials Of A Discrete Variable written by Arnold F. Nikiforov and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
While classical orthogonal polynomials appear as solutions to hypergeometric differential equations, those of a discrete variable emerge as solutions of difference equations of hypergeometric type on lattices. The authors present a concise introduction to this theory, presenting at the same time methods of solving a large class of difference equations. They apply the theory to various problems in scientific computing, probability, queuing theory, coding and information compression. The book is an expanded and revised version of the first edition, published in Russian (Nauka 1985). Students and scientists will find a useful textbook in numerical analysis.

This book provides a thrilling history of the famous priority dispute between Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Isaac Newton, presenting the episode for the first time in the context of cultural history. It introduces readers to the background of the dispute, details its escalation, and discusses the aftermath of the big divide, which extended well into rThe Early Challengesnd the story is very intelligibly explained – an approach that offers general readers interested in the history of sciences and mathematics a window into the world of these two giants in their field. From the epilogue to the German edition by Eberhard Knobloch:Thomas Sonar has traced the emergence and the escalation of this conflict, which was heightened by Leibniz’s rejection of Newton’s gravitation theory, in a grandiose, excitingly written monograph. With absolute competence, he also explains the mathematical context so that non-mathematicians will also profit from the book. Quod erat demonstrandum!
