I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR..That was my oath to my god and country in August 1963. I was an infantryman and a paratrooper for the U.S. Army. I fought for my country in Vietnam. After my discharge I was a self contractor and had a son and daughter. To this day that has been my life. Literally no legacy to be remembered by maybe my great or great great grandchildren. Now I need something so if someone asked them who I was, they could prove I was a real person and maybe Id be noted for something special. I dream constantly and write poetry and would like to publish a memoir. It has to start now at the age of sixty nine as my life has consisted of nothing special to this point. I would like to continue writing and publishing more poetry and a novel. My heart has stopped five times and now I am obsessed in having a legacy to put me in a category where I may be extra special for something. Maybe in thirty or forty years someone may say OH Yes, I Do Remember Him He..??

This book of poetry is from my heart. These words came out of a place so deep within me that it sustained my life when I wanted to die too as I watched my son's life slip away. I wrote these poems for myself, it was how I survived the grief of my son's death. Now I want to share my son's story, his love, my love, the love that runs through us and is us. May the thread of connectedness be revealed so that in hearing our story, you may take courage when the time comes and really give yourself permission to be present and truly show up!!! In the end the only thing that really matters is love. Through poetry I have woven a web of connectedness, a bridge into the shared heart of a mother and her dying son. The way is lighted for you, but your experience will be your own. you will learn what there is for you to learn. There are no words to describe some things and poetry is such a beautiful way to give these "no words" expression. The deepest experience is awarded those who can read between the lines. I encourage you to read aloud those passages that bring tears to your eyes or a lump in your throat. You do me honor which I pass on to my son. These words came from a place so deep within that it sustained me when I wanted to die in sympathy as I watched the life force slip away from my son's wasting body. Originally this book was centered on identifying only one hundred women until Mrs. Michelle Obama became the first African American First Lady; thus it became apparent that she had to be added to this list thereby she became the one hundred and one most influential women in my life. I can truly begin and end appropriately when I refer to the women who had a profound effect on me and my life extends from my little white house on a dirt road in Bulloch County Georgia to the White House located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. I am not sure just how many of the readers will receive my reference to scripture as I will often refer to but I want to start with a quote: “give honor to where honor is due; and tribute tow where tribute is due.” These one hundred and one women stories and lives have certainly influenced me, guided me, taught me and help to prepare me to live and have a wholesome and wealthy life whereby it is has contributed to my entire wellness. Wholeness, wealth and wellness come in a variety of ways; however, often times they are not easily recognized because they are not in a materialistic appearance which can be touched or perceived. It is now my esteemed pleasure to introduce you to the women of honor who contributed too much to me. I was able to look beyond my economic, social, financial circumstances into a new realm of endless possibilities.
