Los dietarios de Marcos Ordoñez, escritos entre 2011 y 2016: la vida, la edad, el teatro, las lecturas, las canciones, las amistades... «Comienzas a tener “una cierta edad” cuando caes en la cuenta de que un día más es, irrevocablemente, un día menos. ¡Gran descubrimiento, molesta constatación!», dice Marcos Ordóñez en el pórtico de este variadísimo dietario, que abarca de 2011 a 2016. En él afirma también: «Un dietario suele escribirse por diversos motivos. Los míos diría que son tres: tratar de sujetar lo que escapa del paso de los días, pensar con un poco de calma, y correr en libertad, jugando con tonos y géneros.» Ordóñez entiende los dietarios como unas memorias con otra forma, mitad «autobiografía en clave íntima» y mitad «libro de horas (o deshoras), escrito de noche y para ser leído de noche». Y que revele, señala, el «vagabundeo mental» del escritor, «los vaivenes, convicciones y contradicciones de su pensamiento en su faceta más ensayística, de tentativa». Pero hay mucho más. En Una cierta edad, el lector va a toparse con cuadernos escritos a lo largo de cuatro años, donde desfilan destellos de infancia, adolescencia y anteayer; crónicas breves, artículos de madrugada, apuntes al sesgo, microrrelatos, pequeños poemas, humoradas luminosas o bromas oscuras de la existencia... Y también alegrías de las estaciones, ecos de sabidurías ajenas, pensamientos sobre la escritura, el teatro, la crítica, la música y otras artes; notas de lectura, de revisiones, de paseos, espejos y espejismos, sueños y pesadillas, «y el intento, reiterado por torpeza, de “arrancar del tiempo lo transitorio apasionado”, como pedía Patrick Kavanagh». Marcos Ordóñez encuentra en su paseo esquinas inusitadas, y gentes y cosas sorprendentes; recolecta aforismos tímidos; se pasma ante el avance de los años, y camina con el miedo o la felicidad pintados en la cara. Se reencuentra con muchos compañeros de viaje: escritores queridos (Capote, Salter, Modiano, Ferrater, Handke, Auden, Chandler, Casavella, Raúl Ruiz, Charles Simic, Bernard Frank), diaristas de cabecera (Renard, Flaianno, Uriarte, Vidal-Folch) o maestros teatrales (Núria Espert, Mario Gas, Lluís Pasqual, Julia Gutiérrez Caba, Alfredo Sanzol, Toni Servillo, Peter Brook), y vuelve a escuchar canciones de Dylan, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Montand, Mina, Sinatra... Cambian las luces, las ciudades y los estados de ánimo; la «cierta edad» del título le «permite fantasear con la presunción de que en alguna parte de este libro quizás se encuentre mi esencia sin argumento, mi voz hecha de muchas», y al final del paseo reconoce tres señales de que el día ha sido bueno: «Si he atrapado un momento de belleza, si he reído con alegría al menos una vez, y si he podido decir: “Bueno, creo que tengo un borrador, mañana lo paso a limpio.”».
