The Cats Be Unemployed A Millennial’s Topsy-Turvy Chase for Gainful Employment; or, A Generation’s Catalog of Conundrums When we are young and un(der)employed, we may find ourselves in desperate or humorous situations trying to chase some cash. We become curious about ourselves and our society and question what it really means to be an “adult.” We begin to compare ourselves to others...or to cats: living back at home, sleeping all day, going crazy, not wearing pants, pawing at that mouse. We are always on the hunt. We are constantly put in boxes. We are frustrated by closed doors. The Cats Be Unemployed takes you through one Millennial’s topsy-turvy chase to find gainful employment after cat walking right into the Great Recession. Kristin’s twenties are spent precariously enduring unemployment five times within a six year span, while fighting through bait and switch scams, unreliable jobs and gig work, questionable policies, rocky relationships, and her own “quarter life crisis.” Through a collection of essays combining personal stories, extensive research, and humor, she examines the socioeconomic landscape this generation lives with, but has the potential to change. She provides insightful analysis on disconnects that surround education, health care, pay rates, company culture, and our perceptions versus realities of the working world. Join Kristin in an eye-opening discovery of the catalog of conundrums aspiring adults face after graduation. The Cats Be Unemployed reflects on and examines socioeconomic issues that aspiring adults encounter constantly: • Grievances and hilarities of being un(der)employed • Disconnects between education and the actualities of the workplace • Counterproductive company cultures • Scams that target the vulnerable • Company drug testing • Stagnating job growth, creation and pay rates • Effects on relationships when lost and broke • Health care options and dilemmas • Frustrations when working with recruiters • Kooky living situations • Coming of age with ever-changing technology and social media • The “Quarter Life Crisis”

A Unicorn in my Forest, A Rabbit in my Bed begins when Michelle, a thirty-year-old woman, decides she needs to get into therapy because she is having a lot of problems coping with her life. As her therapy continues, she discovers that she has repressed her memories of the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse she endured throughout her childhood. Her psychologist Tim understands that due to the trauma she faced, Michelle survived the only way she could, by constructing a safe fantasy world in her head. She also learned to feel shame and guilt instead of the healthy self-esteem that would have naturally developed had she been brought up in a loving nurturing environment. Tim creates a safe place where Michelle can become that little girl again and confront the monsters that haunted her. It is only by regressing back to her childhood and transferring all her unfulfilled needs for love, nurturing, and acceptance onto Tim that she is able to access the horrible memories of what happened to her as a child. She is also blindsided by the overwhelming anger she feels toward her mother for not protecting her. Once Michelle is able to replace her guilt and shame with a healthy self-esteem, she realizes that all the significant men in her life have shaped her into servicing their needs, with no regard for her welfare whatsoever. With Tim's guidance, she sees how these men have replicated her father's abuse to varying degrees. The book fluctuates between Michelle's therapy sessions and her life with her abusive husband, clueless mother, young son, and schizophrenic sister; her renewed relationship with the sexual predator who molested her throughout her teenage years; and her new deceitful boyfriend.

How did five twentieth-century British authors, C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, and Dorothy L. Sayers, along with their mentors George MacDonald and G. K. Chesterton, come to contribute more to the intellect and imagination of millions than many of their literary contemporaries put together? How do their achievements continue to inform and potentially transform us in the twenty-first century? In this first collection of its kind, addressing the entire famous group of seven authors, the twenty-seven chapters in The Inklings and Culture explore the legacy of their diverse literary art—inspired by the Christian faith—art that continues to speak hope into a hurting and deeply divided world.

Modality written by Joseph Melia and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-18 with Philosophy categories.

This introduction to modality places the emphasis on the metaphysics of modality rather than on the formal semetics of quantified modal logic. The text begins by introducing students to the "de re/de dicto" distinction, conventionalist and conceptualist theories of modality and some of the key problems in modality, particularly Quine's criticisms. It then moves on to explain how possible worlds provide a solution to many of the problems in modality and how possible worlds themselves have been used to analyse notions outside modality such as properties and propositions. Possible worlds introduce problems of their own and the book argues that to make progress with these problems a theory of possible worlds is required. The pros and cons of various theories of possible worlds are then examined in turn, including those of Lewis, Kripke, Adams, Stalnaker and Plantinga.

This encyclopedia is the perfect guide to the weird, magical, superstitious, and supernatural beliefs of people from all over the world. This book is devoted to those human beliefs that fall in the "gray zone" between science, religion, and everyday life – call them superstitious, supernatural, magical, or just wrong. In an often incomprehensible world where lightning or plague could end life quickly or drought could condemn a poor family to agonizing death, superstitious beliefs gave people a feeling of understanding or even control. They have continued to shape societies and cultures ever since. This book covers a range of superstitious, supernatural, and otherwise unusual beliefs from the ancient world to the early 19th century. More than 100 entries explain beliefs, discuss historical evidence, and explain how each belief differs across cultures. This book is a perfect gateway for anyone curious about superstitious and magical beliefs, with topics ranging from the everyday, such as dogs and iron, to legendary figures, such as Hermes Trismegistus and the Yellow Emperor.
