"A Valediction" is a 36-line love poem that was first published in the 1633 collection Songs and Sonnets, two years after Donne's death. Based around the idea of two parting lovers, the poem is notable for its use of conceits and heavy allegory to describe the couple's relationship. John Donne was an English poet, satirist, lawyer and priest. He is considered the pre-eminent representative of the metaphysical poets. His works are noted for their strong, sensual style and include sonnets, love poetry, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegies, songs, satires and sermons. His poetry is noted for its vibrancy of language and inventiveness of metaphor, especially compared to that of his contemporaries.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 2,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, language: English, abstract: Most people would think of Shakespeare if they were asked for the most famous poet of the Elizabethan era. He invented the “Shakespearean Sonnet” after all, which is probably the only type of Renaissance poem German students have to read during their school career. However, Shakespeare was not the only author of sonnets during this time. Someone who deserves just as much acknowledgement in this area is John Donne, who had an especially meteoric comeback in 1921 due to the publication of Eliot’s essay “The Metaphysical Poets.” Roland Greene, an editor for the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics, shows in the encyclopedia that many scholars actually consider Donne to be one of the greatest poets in the English language. His work focused on themes of love and devotion, both the physical and spiritual kinds. The latter can be also found in his poem “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning.” In this poem, Donne describes a situation every person who has fallen in love can relate to: the lovers face an upcoming farewell. Although the poem was written around 400 years ago, it still addresses issues that can be found in several poems, songs or other stories of our time. Maybe it would be too easy to compare Donne’s metaphysical love poetry to a current pop song since he elaborates this valediction with something resembling a catchy refrain: a series of four metaphysical conceits where he “unleashes all his rhetorical cleverness” as Greene calls it. What the title suggests and what also emerges upon a first reading is that the speaker wishes to forbid any mourning about the parting of the two lovers. They appear strong and well prepared since their love outshines the love of “[d]ull sublunary lover’s” (13). But after further reflection, and rereading the poem, the reader can deduce that the speaker is trying to cover up his worries and fears over the parting. Baumlin raises the question of whether the last three stanzas in Donne’s poem serve as a doubting promise that the speaker will return, and a plea for the woman’s continued faith.

Donne and the Politics of Conscience in Early Modern England examines the responses of John Donne and his contemporaries to post-Reformation debate about authority and interpretation. It argues that the legal and epistemological principles, as well as the narrative practices, of casuistry provided an important resource for those caught in the welter of conflicting laws and religions. The first two chapters explore the political, historical, and theological contexts of casuistry, locating Donne in debates about the limits of reason and the relativity of law and ethics. Chapter three addresses Donne's concern with problems of moral decision and action, of knowledge and definition, in five of his prose works. Chapter four examines ways in which his verse assimilates and wittily subverts casuists' responses to epistemological and linguistic uncertainty. The study is particularly useful for literary critics, intellectual historians, and theologians.

My family was a descendant of Mughals who once ruled the entire sub continent for a thousand year . My great great grandfather belonged to the royal Mughals , who in the riot of 1857 , fled to survive at the back of the red fort in Dehli , where various others royal princes and princesses counting their days of agony and misery , after being brutally boomed , then doomed as the Sub-Continent was being pirated by the pirates of KaliKut , whereas the entire dynasty was transformed into a British colony .My parents were both Syyeds and Mughals ; they were being knotted in a holy noose in the month of Monsoon season in 1946 ,where the ideology of a new Muslim State was conjecturing in every corner of India .I was born in July ,1947 when a baby state was going to be born on the map of the world as Pakistan.Fifteen years passed after that dark night of revelation that what Mahmood Mirza suffered through the cruel hand of fate , where he endured the poison of gods like Suleman and that police officer .Life rolled on and my son who moved America for higher studies , announced his marriage with an American girl ,who did not agree to revert as Muslim . After talking to his son on telephone , Suleman stayed quiet ; I knew that he was upset , for an instance ,our glances were exchanged , both of us knew that the news unstitched a profound lesion of the past .It seemed as changes and new creation on the world map was highly wicked regarding South East Asia ; as Pakistan and India were broken up into a war in 1971 , which ended up in the fall of Dacca . East Pakistan was then emerged as Bangladesh , whereas , over here in west Pakistan , there was a democratic revolution , as the most famous political party PPP ,whose Chairman , Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was elected as the prime minister of the remaining Pakistan ; no doubt he was charismatic but controversial .As in 1974 , under his premiership , he adopted a law declaring Ahmadis to be non-Muslims. That night ,while we all four sat down to have dinner , my elder son Akbar Suleman began to discuss about the verdict declared by Bhutto ; with a shadow of contempt , Suleman looked at me , as it had reminded him the reflections of my past .
