Excerpt from A Working Plan for Forest Lands in Central Alabama The preparatory field work, which occupied a party of nine men on the ground for a period of five months, consisted principally in the running of valuation surveys, the making of stem analyses, a study of the logging methods of the Kaul Lumber Company and their effect on the future productivity of the forest, and a study of the damage to the forest by fires and of means of preventing them. A total of acres of valuation surveys were run 91 in the Coosa County tract and in the Bibb County tract. In addition to the field work a special study was made at the mill at Hollins to determine the value of the lumber sawed from trees of different sizes.
