HAVING CONQUERED POLAND, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France, Adolph Hitler turned his attention to the British. Operation Sea Lion was the code name for Hitler s plan to invade England. To have any chance of success, however, the operation would require air supremacy. While America clung to neutrality, American Wedge Madison, who had flown against the Germans in the Spanish Revolution, went to England and joined the RAF. This is the story of a particular time in history; the people, the circumstances, and one of the most pivotal events of World War II. Educated at the University of Texas, Sid Rich has been an executive with an insurance company, a trade association manager, a company president, chairman-of-the-board a corporation, a consultant in the long-term care field, and a registered Texas lobbyist. This is the story of American volunteer pilots who risked their lives in defense of Britain during the earliest days of World War II—more than a year before Pearl Harbor, when the United States first became embroiled in the global conflict. As the author’s research shows, their motives were various: some were idealistic; others were simply restless and looking for adventure.
