Tässä kirjassa Matti Mäkelä avaa yllättäviä näkökulmia säähän liittyviin asioihin. Miksi muinoin maanjäristys erotti hallitsijan, mutta tulivuorenpurkaus ei. Miten lihavasta syksystä tuli synkin ja pimein vuodenaika, kun saatiin valot kaikille. Kuinka maapallon suurin kansa eivät ole kiinalaiset vaan huoneihmiset, me alituiseen kahteenkymmeneen lämpöasteeseen tottuneet. Miksi Hitlerin hirmutekojen vuoksi hylkäsimme päivänselvän ajatuksen kansanluonteiden erilaisuudesta. Pohdiskelun ohessa Mäkelä kertoo pitkän tähtäimen sääennusteen sadantuhannen vuoden päähän ja luonnostelee uuden luonnonuskonnon. Sääkirjassa tilaa myös ihmisenkokoisille elämyksille. Hän kirjoitti ylioppilaaksi Marttilan Yhteislyseosta 1972, valmistui filosofian kandidaatiksi Helsingin yliopistosta 1980 ja lisensiaatiksi 1988. Ennen kuin ryhtyi vapaaksi kirjailijaksi 1994 Mäkelä toimi Helsingin yliopistossa kirjastoamanuenssina ja amanuenssina, Haminan kaupungin koululaitoksessa erityisopettajana sekä Helsingin yliopistossa tuntiopettajana. Lisäksi hän on ollut Kymen läänin taidetoimikunnan ohjaavana läänintaiteilijana kirjallisuudessa sekä toiminut Kotkan kaupungin Pekkas-akatemian rehtorina. Matti Mäkelän aika jakautuu neljään osaan: kirjojen kirjoittamiseen, kolumnistina toimimiseen, Aamulehden kriitikontyöhön ja mielipidepuhujan rooliin. Mäkelä asuu Joensuussa, Nivan kylässä. Hänestä on tullut isoisä.
