E iniziando proprio dal contestare l’ambiguità e l’inadeguatezza della voce RESTAURO dei grandi Dizionari Storici di architettura, a cominciare dal Baldinucci e da Viollet le Duc fino all’opera recente di Fleming-Honour. Contro il cattivo esempio delle quali abbiamo iniziato in modo condiviso a contrapporci assieme ai colleghi docenti e progettisti del Politecnico di Milano dopo una precedente decisiva esperienza didattica e di ricerca nell’Istituto di Restauro dei Monumenti dell’università di Firenze, fondato da Piero Sanpaolesi fin dal 1961[...] Su tale pensiero condiviso abbiamo attivato una vivace Scuola dello sguardo profondo, del rispetto e della cura dovuta al costruito diffuso come necessaria componente di un progetto architettonico compatibile e consapevole, riprendendo la purtroppo sempre troppo poco ascoltata lezione dei grandi Padri della tutela e della conservazione[...] Così all’interno della rivista ‘ANANKE, da noi fondata nel 1993 per mettere l’accento sulla necessità di un chiarimento epistemologico-linguistico su quello che già ai suoi tempi (1849) Ruskin aveva chiamato il “cosiddetto restauro” tradizionale, negli ultimi numeri abbiamo dato opportuno spazio a puntate, come in un popolare romanzo d’appendice, alle voci alfabetiche che oggi qui riuniamo in questo – ci auguriamo utile – volumetto del quale teniamo a segnalare il carattere sperimentale, aperto agli ulteriori generosi contributi di chi scorrendolo vorrà emendarlo e accrescerlo.» (dall’Introduzione di M.
