Esta obra trata da atuação do Estado na economia como acionista minoritário, com enfoque especial na realidade brasileira. Nesse sentido, demonstra-se como as participações minoritárias possibilitam a atuação do Estado como empresário, regulador, fomentador e investidor. Em seguida, aprofunda-se nos mecanismos societários que a Administração Pública pode utilizar para que, mesmo como acionista minoritária, possa influenciar a direção das empresas público-privadas, tais como os acordos de acionistas e as golden-shares. A obra discorre ainda sobre a natureza jurídica e as vantagens comparativas da atuação estatal na economia por meio de participações minoritárias, promovendo uma avaliação crítica acerca dos limites a ela impostos e traçando uma distinção entre o uso das participações públicas como opção legítima de atuação na economia versus sua aplicação como burla ao regime jurídico aplicável às empresas estatais, mediante o controle societário disfarçado e a simulação de contratações administrativas. The literature on early-modern monetary history is vast and rich, yet overly Eurocentric. This book takes a global approach. It calls attention to the fact that, for example, Japan and South America were dominant in silver production, while China was the principal end-market; key areas for transshipment included Europe and Africa, India and the Middle East. Europeans were often just middlemen. Other monetized substances - gold, copper and cowries - must also be viewed globally. The interrelated trades in metals and monies are what first linked worldwide markets, and disequilibrium within the silver market in the 16th and 17th centuries was an active cause of this global trade.
