In just ten months in Vietnam, he was overrun, shot up, but not underworked—he survived fifty-four missions as point man. He has one hell of a story to tell. You didn't get into the Rangers without volunteering, and you didn't stay on point unless you liked it. But after watching most of his buddies die in a firefight when his LRRP team was overrun by the NVA, Kregg Jorgenson volunteered to serve on a Blue Team in the Air Cavalry, racing to the aid of soldiers who faced the same dangers he had barely survived. Whether enduring NVA sapper attacks, surviving “friendly” fire, or landing in hot LZs, Jorgenson discovered that in Vietnam you never knew whether you were paranoid or just painfully aware of the possibilities.

Anne Perry’s seventeenth William Monk novel, now in paperback, is a mesmerizing masterpiece of innocence and evil on London’s docks, a welcome addition to this successful and beloved series. NATIONAL BESTSELLER On a London riverbank, when the body of small-time crook Mickey Parfitt washes up with the tide, no one grieves. But William Monk, commander of the River Police, is puzzled by the murder weapon: an elegant scarf whose original owner was obviously a man of substance. Dockside informers lead Monk to a floating palace of corruption on the Thames managed by Parfitt, where a band of half-starved boys is held captive for men willing to pay a high price for midnight pleasures. Though Monk and his fearless wife, Hester, would gladly reward Parfitt’s killer, duty leads them in another direction—to an unresolved crime, to a deadly confrontation with some of the empire’s most respected men, and ultimately to a courtroom showdown with Monk’s old friend, Oliver Rathbone, in a trial of nearly unbearable tension and suspense. BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Anne Perry's A Sunless Sea. “Masterful storytelling . . . [the] best in the series to date.”—The Star-Ledger

As a past case returns to haunt Monk, can he find justice for the innocent? Inspector William Monk once again faces a dangerous foe in Acceptable Loss, the seventeenth novel in Anne Perry's acclaimed series. Perfect for fans of C. J. Sansom and Ann Granger. '[An Anne Perry novel can] take us away to the far reaches of our imaginations, to a place and a time about which we can only dream... We see the gaslight, we feel the fog, and in Perry's latest, Acceptable Loss, we experience the horror of murder, blackmail and sordid crime, as well as the shining victory of heroic sacrifice and personal courage' - Asbury Park Press In 1864, Monk and his wife Hester are doing their best to care for Scuff, a homeless boy recovering from a terrifying ordeal at the hands of Jericho Phillips, the runner of a child prostitution ring. Although Scuff's evil abductor is dead, there is no suggestion that the ring has been broken and Scuff is certain that more children are suffering an even worse fate. Monk is determined to find the remaining children and uncover the men funding the operation. And when the body of small-time crook Mickey Parfitt washes up on Mortlake's shore, it fortuitously points him in the right direction. But as Monk's investigation continues, the reputations of respected gentlemen start being called into question and his task becomes fraught with unforeseen dangers. In an illicit world of blackmail, vice and corruption, Monk must follow the trail - and his conscience - wherever it leads, no matter how disturbing the truth may be. What readers are saying about Acceptable Loss: 'There is no one who better captures the Victorian period. From the homes of the wealthy, to the lowest, meanest parts of London, [Anne Perry] creates a fully-realised world' 'A riveting mystery wrapped up in the dark and seedy side of Victorian London' 'Anne Perry is the best Victorian crime [writer] I have ever read'

Ziesk's debut novel is a story of loss and the effort to replace what is lost with love. Set in a small New Jersey shore town, the narrative traces the intersecting lives of three young people, silhouetted against the backdrop of the tumultuous years that saw the deaths of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., and spanned the Vietnam War. Thirteen-year-old Joellen, grieving for her mother's untimely death, and Joe Handy, two years older, emotionally stunted by his father's repeated abandonments, come together as an attempt to compensate for their respective losses. Charlie-o, Joellen's childhood friend, is left behind as she moves beyond the pale of childish things, into a passion edged in desperation.

Significant developments since the publication of its bestselling predecessor, Building and Implementing a Security Certification and Accreditation Program, warrant an updated text as well as an updated title. Reflecting recent updates to the Certified Authorization Professional (CAP®) Common Body of Knowledge (CBK®) and NIST SP 800-37, the Official (ISC)2® Guide to the CAP® CBK®, Second Edition provides readers with the tools to effectively secure their IT systems via standard, repeatable processes. Derived from the author’s decades of experience, including time as the CISO for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Support Contract, the book describes what it takes to build a system security authorization program at the organizational level in both public and private organizations. It analyzes the full range of system security authorization (formerly C&A) processes and explains how they interrelate. Outlining a user-friendly approach for top-down implementation of IT security, the book: Details an approach that simplifies the authorization process, yet still satisfies current federal government criteria Explains how to combine disparate processes into a unified risk management methodology Covers all the topics included in the Certified Authorization Professional (CAP®) Common Body of Knowledge (CBK®) Examines U.S. federal polices, including DITSCAP, NIACAP, CNSS, NIAP, DoD 8500.1 and 8500.2, and NIST FIPS Reviews the tasks involved in certifying and accrediting U.S. government information systems Chapters 1 through 7 describe each of the domains of the (ISC)2® CAP® CBK®. Risk Management In The Polish Financial System written by Marian Noga and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-21 with Business & Economics categories.

With globalisation comes an increase in the threat from systemic risk. As national economies become more globally entwined many argue that insufficient attention is being given to systemic risk; a principal contributor to recent economic crises. Focusing on the Polish financial system, this book addresses this critical issue within a global economic context. It advocates that accurate risk management practices and appropriate micro and macroeconomic policies can be created and maintained in order to manage systemic risk at both a national and international level. The book reviews current systemic risk management practices, analysing stability and existing micro- and macroprudential policies, before examining the current risks involved in investing in financial instruments and those associated with investing in stock exchanges. It offers suggestions for the effective implementation of a well-designed public policy, through well managed fiscal and monetary policies, and reflects the roles of households and companies in planning, organizing, and controlling socio-economic activity to control risk. Risk Management in the Polish Financial System aims to redefine the taxonomy of systemic risk, offering practical and regulatory socio-economic processes which can be applied to current risk management practices, as well as provide a risk map for the years to come.

This book contains the proceedings of an interna tional symposium devoted to Modeling and Analysis of Defense Processes in the context of land/air warfare. It was sponsored by Panel VII (on Defense Applications of Operational Research) of NATO's Defense Research Group (DRG) and took place 27-29 July 1982 at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Except perhaps for the Theater-Level Gaming and Analysis Workshop, sponsored by the Office of united 1 states Naval Research in 1977 , this symposium was the first international scientific meeting on Operations Research/Systems Analysis in the area of land/air war fare since the conference on Modeling Land Battle Systems 2 for Military Planning sponsored by NATO's Special Pro gramme Panel on Systems Science in 1974. That conference dealt primarily with modeling small unit (company, bat talion) engagements and, to a lesser extent, large unit (corps, theater) campaigns with principal emphasis on attrition processes and movement in combat. It was considered as rather successful in that it revealed the state-of-the art around 1972 and identified problem areas and promising approaches for future developments. lWith regard to foreign attendance, this wo- shop was largely limited to participants from the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany (see L.J. Low: Theater-Level Gaming and Analysis Workshop for Force Planning, Vol II-Summary, Discus sion of Issues and Requirements for Research, SRI Report, May, 1981).
