The son of a single parent, a black Jamaican woman who was a poor domestic worker, author Ralston G. Bishop narrates the story of his life in Acceptance is the Beginning of Change. From his birth in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, in 1974, to growing up poor in the parish of St Ann, to turning to crime, to spending time in prison, Bishop shares his journey and discusses the lessons he’s learned along the way. Now a farmer and a poet, he reflects on poverty and its far-reaching effect on people, and he tells of the importance of having complete faith and trust in God. From rags to riches and from riches to rags, this memoir shares Bishop’s story as he learns to accept the regrets of his past and come to terms with a new present and future. Honest and disclosing, Acceptance is the Beginning of Change communicates that it’s not about what one lacks in life, it is about what one has. It’s not about the mistakes—it’s about the lessons gained.

Mindfulness And Acceptance In Social Work written by Matthew S. Boone and has been published by New Harbinger Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-01 with Social Science categories.

Social work focuses on serving the most vulnerable members of society, and social workers must often address the contextual forces that contribute to human problems. Mindfulness and acceptance are powerful tools for this practice. By offering interventions like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), social workers can help their clients become more aware and take effective action. In Mindfulness and Acceptance in Social Work, editor and social worker Matthew S. Boone brings together contributions from emerging voices in social work, such as Elana Rosenbaum, Yuk-Lin Renita Wong, and Diana Coholic, along with ACT pioneers Kirk Strosahl, Patricia Robinson, and others. This book focuses not only on mindfulness-based interventions for direct practice, but also on the intersection of mindfulness and social work education, cultural diversity, and macro social work. It includes a framework for moving past culturally-informed biases, and for how to best utilize mindfulness interventions for both individuals and the community at large.

Everything can be alchemized into Love through feeling, because Love IS. Love IS ALL things. Fear is Love. Anger is Love. By feeling the emotions, pain, or wound you have deemed unlovable, you anchor the LOVE YOU ARE within your being. Such is the power of self-acceptance. Declare to yourself: I am ready to feel. I am willing to feelthus healing the pains of my past. God supports my healing. When I simply feel with compassion, my Soul, God does the healing. I allow this healing to happen with grace and ease. The Buddhist masterpiece Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sūtras, often referred to by its Sanskrit title, Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra, is part of a collection known as the Five Maitreya Teachings, a set of philosophical works that have become classics of the Indian Buddhist tradition. Maitreya, the Buddha’s regent, is held to have entrusted these profound and vast instructions to the master Asaṅga in the heavenly realm of Tuṣita. The Ornament provides a comprehensive description of the bodhisattva’s view, meditation, and enlightened activities. Bodhisattvas are beings who, out of vast love for all sentient beings, have dedicated themselves to the task of becoming fully awakened buddhas, capable of helping all beings in innumerable and vast ways to become enlightened themselves. To fully awaken requires practicing great generosity, patience, energy, discipline, concentration, and wisdom, and Maitreya’s text explains what these enlightened qualities are and how to develop them. This volume includes commentaries by Khenpo Shenga and Ju Mipham, whose discussions illuminate the subtleties of the root text and provide valuable insight into how to practice the way of the bodhisattva. Drawing on the Indian masters Vasubandhu and, in particular, Sthiramati, Mipham explains the Ornament with eloquence and brilliant clarity. This commentary is among his most treasured works.
