Major And Serious Crime Investigations written by Richard Carr and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-28 with Law categories.
This text explores the concept of major and serious crime investigations as it takes the reader through the fundamental elements of investigative theory and practice that are relevant to this area of criminality. Unlike other texts that concentrate on either bespoke areas of criminality such as homicide, terrorism or tends in concepts such as county lines, this book recognises that the reader will be new to investigative study with little practitioner experience to anchor their learning. By using the latest evidence-based policing knowledge and critical thinking, it explores the concepts of major and serious crime, detailing key areas of legislation and how investigative strategies and decision making can influence successful outcomes. Other topics examined in this text is the key areas of risk for major and serious crime investigations, the impact on investigators, the concept of disclosure, investigative interviewing and how civil orders, designed to tackle this type of criminality can provide a successful alternative to prosecution. Both students and practitioners can find this book useful with this book's contemporary approach of using case studies and contemporary investigative examples relevant to the topic. This book brings together academic theory and operational understanding of major and serious crime that provides learners with an easy to follow guide that they can keep returning to throughout their career.

Legal design has been with us for over a decade. Its core idea, i.e. to use design methods to make the world of law accessible to all, has been widely embraced by academics, researchers, and professionals. Over time, the field has grown, expanding its initial problem-solving approach to other dimensions of design, such as speculative design, design fiction, proactive law, and disciplines like cognitive science and philosophy. The book presents a state-of-the-art reflection on legal design evolution and applications. It features twelve insightful contributions discussed during the 2023 'Legal Design Roundtable' on 'Design(s) for Law', organised within the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet clinic on 'EU Digital Rights, Law, and Design'. These perspectives from academics and professionals add important nuances to the literature, either presenting new approaches, applying consolidated practices to new contexts and areas, or showcasing actual and potential applications. Ideal for academics, legal professionals, and students, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in new critical approaches to the law and in the creative construction of fairer and more human-friendly legal systems.

Conversations Online written by P. J. Connolly and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-15 with Philosophy categories.
The growth of communication technologies has profoundly and inescapably impacted politics, society, and how we coordinate our lives. One of the central components of this change has been the transformation in our communicative possibilities. Amongst other things, the internet has given rise to new linguistic phenomena, novel ways of doing things with words, and new types of communicative behaviour. It has created communicative possibilities that we might think are broadly positive, and yet it has also been instrumental in—and the locus for—the spread of malevolent types of speech. Conversations Online collects eighteen original contributions from twenty-six philosophers of language. These thinkers are well-placed to provide insights that can help us sift through and understand linguistic phenomena in online settings, considering them in terms of existing theories and providing analyses that will be helpful for anybody who is interested in online communication. Together they show that great possibilities are available to us when we look at conversations online and develop a broader understanding of how language develops in digital settings. This diverse volume will not only advance the topic of online communication within philosophy of language—it will also equip readers with a better understanding of the utility of the field and the many ways in which technological developments are changing how we interact. Chapter 2 of this work is available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 International open access licence. This part of the work is free to read on the Oxford Academic platform and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations.

Arbitrability written by Fabien Gélinas and has been published by Kluwer Law International B.V. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-17 with Law categories.
As simple as the arbitrability question might appear (namely, what types of issues may and may not be submitted to arbitration), for a legal system to set a clear and consistent approach to arbitration, it must consider many complicated factors that relate to public policy and economic priorities as well as international relations. This comprehensive, precise, and practical book identifies and analyzes the fundamentals of, and major approaches to, arbitrability in the current international context. The authors focus on nine major arbitration jurisdictions—the United States, Canada, France, England and Wales, Switzerland, Germany, China (Mainland), Hong Kong, and Singapore—with meticulous attention to each jurisdiction’s pertinent case law and legislative framework as well as relevant commentary. For each jurisdiction, the arbitrability of disputes in the following fields of law is discussed: antitrust/competition; bankruptcy/insolvency; consumer; corporate; family/domestic relations; intellectual property (copyright, patent, and trademark); labor/employment; securities; and torts. Based on the jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction analysis, the authors identify key areas in which the selected jurisdictions share similarities and evince differences with respect to each of the above-mentioned fields. With a structure that enables readers to easily locate what they are looking for and gives clear-cut answers, this unique book fully elucidates the notion of arbitrability by identifying the key concepts, the applicable rules, and different criteria for arbitrability and by explaining how different jurisdictions deal with specific types of disputes. It will be welcomed by counsel, arbitrators, judges, students, and academics active in international arbitration and the enforcement of arbitral awards.
