The Acting Out Yoga Series was born out of a need to find creative ways to engage young yoga students in class. Each book provides lesson plans for teachers to guide children through a "fantastical" fairy tale story while facilitating their ability to quickly learn asanas (poses). Thanks to the talents of artist Jessica Lynn Clark, these watercolor illustrations also provide the perfect backdrop in art galleries, where students can - literally - walk through the exhibit and act out the images found within each painting. The stories are designed to teach kids about art and culture in different parts of the world, and a portion of the sales from each edition will be donated to a children's charity related to that country. For example, the first book in the series, Harvir in the Amazon, is dedicated to Angels of the Amazon, a non-profit organization that provides much-needed school supplies and medical care to young children in the Amazon Jungle. Synopsis of Book #1 - Harvir in the Amazon: Harvir must rescue the famous dancer, Elsa, after she is snatched from her village by an evil dragon. Enlisting the help of the medicine woman, along with some surprising jungle creatures, Harvir embarks on a journey that takes him deep into the Amazon rain forest. (Ages 4-7) *** Disclaimer: The Acting Out Yoga books are meant to offer helpful information to parents, teachers and students of yoga. Learn how to use children's books during storytime to approach sensitive topics and increase children's social-emotional wellness-and how to create storytimes that are engaging, participative, and FUN! The emotional challenges many children experience consume the time of teachers, exhaust parents, and sometimes lead children toward behaviors that prohibit social and academic success. Storytime to the rescue! Library storytimes prepare children for kindergarten; storytimes at home and in preschools allow teachers, parents, and children to think and talk about empathy and the importance of honoring your own and others' feelings. In Bringing Heart and Mind into Storytime, Heather McNeil teaches librarians and teachers how to use books to open conversations with children to teach such concepts as patience, tenacity, kindness, and teamwork. Yoga isn’t just the physical poses; intentional breathing (and therefore mindfulness) are an integral part of it. Yoga and Mindfulness for Young Children explains the physical and social-emotional benefits of incorporating yoga into early childhood classrooms. Readers do not need to have any experience with yoga to be able to use this book, and the ideas and suggestions are easily modified to suit an individual teacher’s needs. Early childhood educators and registered children's yoga instructors Ilene S. Rosen and Maureen Heil share how to do nine specific breathing techniques and sixty-three different poses with children. The poses are grouped by ten different categories: back-bending poses, forward-bending poses, harmony poses (about balance), just for fun (offer emotional release), lying down poses, partner poses (in pairs), sitting down poses, standing upright poses, twisting poses, and upside-down poses. Information on how do yoga with children with diverse abilities is included.

This is a complete, year-long programming guide that shows librarians how to integrate nonfiction and poetry into storytime for preschool children in order to build literacy skills and overall knowledge. The right nonfiction titles—ones with colorful photographs and facts that are interesting to young imaginations—give librarians an opportunity to connect with children who are yearning for "true stuff." Presenting poetry in storytime encourages a love of language and the chance to play with words. Written by authors with a combined 25 years of experience working with children and books in a library setting, Get Real With Storytime: 52 Weeks of Early Literacy Programming goes far beyond the typical storytime resource book by providing books and great ideas for using nonfiction and poetry with preschool children. This book provides a complete, year-long programming guide for librarians who work with preschool children in public libraries and school librarians who run special programs for preschoolers as well as parents, childcare providers, and camp counselors. Each of the 52 broad storytime topics (one for each week of the year) includes a sample storytime featuring an opening poem; a nonfiction title; picture books; songs, rhymes, or fingerplays; and a follow-up activity. Early literacy tips that are based on the authors' extensive experience and the principles of Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) are presented throughout the book.
