Strategic Discourse written by Barbara Kruse and has been published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Business & Economics categories.

Strategic discourse is a concept that draws attention to the informal discursive processes surrounding the making of strategy. Barbara Kruse approaches the topic by analysing the actors and strategic issues that constitute discourse. Why are some actors actively involved and make a contribution and others don't - even though they seem willing to? Why do some issues gain attention and others don't - even though they would be of strategical relevance? To tackle these questions, the author employs a "strategic arena" as a metaphor. This analogy captures the setting where actors and strategic issues come together; and it assembles time-spatial, strategic and discursive aspects providing fruitful insights for management. Drawing on theories from strategic management and communication science, Barbara Kruse explores the practices of strategic discourse in various companies and derives key levers for designing processes of strategy-making: giving access to the relevant actors and strategic issues, providing the conditions for thinking without constraint, and managing the expectations of employees regarding participation.

Strategic management is a system of continual disequilibrium, with firms in a continual struggle for competitive advantage and relative fitness. Models that are dynamic in nature are required if we are to really understand the complex notion of sustainable competitive advantage. New tools are required to tackle challenges of how firms should compete in environments characterized by both exogeneous shocks and intense endogenous competition. Agent-based modelling of firms' strategies offers an alternative analytical approach, where individual firm or component parts of a firm are modelled, each with their own strategy. Where traditional models can assume homogeneity of actors, agent-based models simulate each firm individually. This allows experimentation of strategic moves, which is particularly important where reactions to strategic moves are non-trivial. This Element introduces agent-based models and their use within management, reviews the influential NK suite of models, and offers an agenda for the development of agent-based models in strategic management.

Strategic Development written by Robert G. Dyson and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-06-29 with Business & Economics categories.

There are a range of views of the strategic development process within organisations. Some see the process as being purely creative, with little or no scope for analysis at any stage (hunch-and-hope). Others see it as being over-formalised, static and focusing on producing a strategic plan rather than on actions. The approach adopted in this book argues that for effective strategic decision making, creativity needs to be supported by structured methods. The strategic development process consists of a series of elements which need to be working effectively for the process to ensure the successful development of the organisation. These elements include objective setting and performance measurement, strategic initiative formulation, strategic evaluation and a process for modelling uncertain/uncontrollable factors. The book then presents a range of hard and soft methods and models capable of supporting them. These include the balanced scorecard, visioning, the TOWS matrix, cognitive mapping, scenario development, systems dynamics modelling, transformation methods such as reengineering, strategic investment appraisal and real option theory. The book should be of interest to both academics and practitioners concerned with strategic development and those teaching and researching in the fields of strategic management, management science and operational research. The book is developed from a previous text Strategic Planning: Models and Analytical Techniques, (Wiley, 1992) following a similar approach and including some of the same methods and models but incorporating an entirely new set of articles including contemporary classics by Eden, Kaplan, Keeney, Porter, Schoemaker and others.
