Selected as a book of the year 2017 by The Times and Sunday Times What is it about Adam and Eve’s story that fascinates us? What does it tell us about how our species lives, dies, works or has sex? The mythic tale of Adam and Eve has shaped conceptions of human origins and destiny for centuries. Stemming from a few verses in an ancient book, it became not just the foundation of three major world faiths, but has evolved through art, philosophy and science to serve as the mirror in which we seem to glimpse the whole, long history of our fears and desires. In a quest that begins at the dawn of time, Stephen Greenblatt takes us from ancient Babylonia to the forests of east Africa. We meet evolutionary biologists and fossilised ancestors; we grapple with morality and marriage in Milton’s Paradise Lost; and we decide if the Fall is the unvarnished truth or fictional allegory.

Has science proven that the Bible is an archaic artifact and that Darwin revealed the origin of life? Not so. In fact, recent developments in a wide range of sciences such as physics, astronomy, archaeology, and human genome DNA studies continue to reveal that what the Bible has been saying all along—and all alone—is exactly correct. As scientific discoveries have been exploding over the last several decades, the evidence supporting the Bible and the Christian faith is exploding right in step with these new findings. The closer science draws to the ultimate truth, the closer it draws to the Bible and to revealing just how correct the Bible is concerning the origin of the universe, life, and the historicity of Jesus Christ. In Confidence in Christ, author and engineer Mike Bradfield starts at the beginning of time and proceeds chronologically, pointing out exciting scientific evidence to support the Christian faith. The easy-to-understand format addresses a number of questions: • How did the universe begin? • Does the big bang theory eliminate God? • Did God really create the entire universe in six literal days? • How did life begin? • How do dinosaurs fit in the biblical timescale? • Did we evolve from apes, and what are human genome studies revealing? • Is humankind millions or thousands of years old? • Is there credible evidence outside the Bible for Jesus? • Is Jesus really the prophesied Christ? The eye-opening evidence in Confidence in Christ should cause you to pause, rethink, and reaffirm your views of the validity of the Christian faith.

Christian conservatism has changed drastically in the last 25 years. From the working-class faith of small, autonomous rural churches or storefront sanctuaries to the megachurches of the suburbs and the halls of power—Congress and the White House—the faith is no longer at the margins of American religion. Rather, it is a dominant force in the American public square. For the first time in its history, Christian conservatism boasts an expanded network of born-again clubs and services that closely follow secular trends in the American consumer market. A veritable Christian suburbia has been created that parallels its secular counterpart. This Christian conservative co-optation of suburbia is unprecedented in the history of the movement. Their embrace of modernity and middle-class lifestyle is a stark contrast to Christian conservatives who avoided engaging with modernity earlier in the 20th century. How did conservative Christianity change, and how is this change affecting its relationship with the larger society? Influenced by middle-class values, power, and education, Christian conservatism has opted to engage with modern political life, allying itself with the Republican Party, and developing an extensive political agenda of its own. This book documents the transformation of Christian conservatism into a middle-class faith and argues that the changes experienced by Christian conservatism are part of a larger religious realignment in American Christianity. Conservative Christianity, once home primarily to working- class religious communities, greatly benefited from the migration of conservative Christians from other denominations as a result of the 1960s Cultural Revolution. The final goal of the movement is, of course, the creation of a biblically-based society, one whose laws are defined by a conservative reading of the Scriptures and whose public mores are more akin to its newly gained middle class status. The push to restore a Christian America raises questions about the conservative Christian faith. Cavalcanti answers those questions as he traces the growth of the movement and its goals.

We live in a time where pop culture, media, and entertainment have been given precedence in establishing the mores of our culture. With this thought in mind Dating: Dress Rehearsal For Divorce takes a closer look at one of these aspects-dating. The idea behind a dress rehearsal is to practice and perfect what will be done once the cameras are rolling. It is to prepare in advance for the real production; and how you practice is likely how you will perform. However in the real life drama of marriage when the cameras are gone, make up is removed and the lights are off two people are left to actually deal with real life, love and circumstances. The stage of life, and marriage, is more than a mere production; again like a dress rehearsal how you practice it is likely how you will perform (live) it. If two are not properly prepared, or familiar with how each one will play their role the results may be something less than an encore performance. Through the years we have seen many scenarios when doing pastoral pre-marriage, and marriage, counseling. Therefore we desire to encourage you with practical wisdom to prepare and lay a foundation for the role you want to play in life. We invite you on a journey that is both challenging and rewarding by comparing traditional dating verses courting, and taking a closer look at where love and intimacy find their place in the middle of it all. By taking a closer look at the prepackaged paradigm of dating you decide how your story will play out.

The Genealogical Adam And Eve written by S. Joshua Swamidass and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-10 with Religion categories.

Evolutionary science teaches that humans arose as a population, sharing common ancestors with other animals. Most readers of the book of Genesis in the past understood all humans descended from Adam and Eve, a couple specially created by God. These two teachings seem contradictory, but is that necessarily so? In the fractured conversation of human origins, can new insight guide us to solid ground in both science and theology? In The Genealogical Adam and Eve, S. Joshua Swamidass tests a scientific hypothesis: What if the traditional account is somehow true, with the origins of Adam and Eve taking place alongside evolution? Building on well-established but overlooked science, Swamidass explains how it's possible for Adam and Eve to be rightly identified as the ancestors of everyone. His analysis opens up new possibilities for understanding Adam and Eve, consistent both with current scientific consensus and with traditional readings of Scripture. These new possibilities open a conversation about what it means to be human. In this book, Swamidass untangles several misunderstandings about the words human and ancestry, in both science and theology explains how genetic and genealogical ancestry are different, and how universal genealogical ancestry creates a new opportunity for rapprochement explores implications of genealogical ancestry for the theology of the image of God, the fall, and people "outside the garden" Some think Adam and Eve are a myth. Some think evolution is a myth. Either way, the best available science opens up space to engage larger questions together. In this bold exploration, Swamidass charts a new way forward for peace between mainstream science and the Christian faith.
