Advanced numerical simulations that use adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) methods have now become routine in engineering and science. Originally developed for computational fluid dynamics applications these methods have propagated to fields as diverse as astrophysics, climate modeling, combustion, biophysics and many others. The underlying physical models and equations used in these disciplines are rather different, yet algorithmic and implementation issues facing practitioners are often remarkably similar. Unfortunately, there has been little effort to review the advances and outstanding issues of adaptive mesh refinement methods across such a variety of fields. This book attempts to bridge this gap. The book presents a collection of papers by experts in the field of AMR who analyze past advances in the field and evaluate the current state of adaptive mesh refinement methods in scientific computing.

Cartesian Cfd Methods For Complex Applications written by Ralf Deiterding and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-18 with Mathematics categories.
This volume collects the most important contributions from four minisymposia from ICIAM 2019. The papers highlight cutting-edge applications of Cartesian CFD methods and describe the employed algorithms and numerical schemes. An emphasis is laid on complex multi-physics applications like magnetohydrodynamics, combustion, aerodynamics with fluid-structure interaction, solved with various discretizations, e.g. finite difference, finite volume, multiresolution or lattice Boltzmann CFD schemes. Software design aspects and parallelization challenges are also considered. The book is addressed to graduate students and scientists in the fields of applied mathematics and computational engineering.

The First International Conference on Computational Methods (ICCM04), organized by the department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, was held in Singapore, December 15-17, 2004, with great success. This conference proceedings contains some 290 papers from more than 30 countries/regions. The papers cover a broad range of topics such as meshfree particle methods, Generalized FE and Extended FE methods, inverse analysis and optimization methods. Computational methods for geomechanics, machine learning, vibration, shock, impact, health monitoring, material modeling, fracture and damage mechanics, multi-physics and multi-scales simulation, sports and environments are also included. All the papers are pre-reviewed before they are accepted for publication in this proceedings. The proceedings will provide an informative, timely and invaluable resource for engineers and scientists working in the important areas of computational methods.

Adaptive Moving Mesh Methods written by Weizhang Huang and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-26 with Mathematics categories.
Moving mesh methods are an effective, mesh-adaptation-based approach for the numerical solution of mathematical models of physical phenomena. Currently there exist three main strategies for mesh adaptation, namely, to use mesh subdivision, local high order approximation (sometimes combined with mesh subdivision), and mesh movement. The latter type of adaptive mesh method has been less well studied, both computationally and theoretically. This book is about adaptive mesh generation and moving mesh methods for the numerical solution of time-dependent partial differential equations. It presents a general framework and theory for adaptive mesh generation and gives a comprehensive treatment of moving mesh methods and their basic components, along with their application for a number of nontrivial physical problems. Many explicit examples with computed figures illustrate the various methods and the effects of parameter choices for those methods. The partial differential equations considered are mainly parabolic (diffusion-dominated, rather than convection-dominated). The extensive bibliography provides an invaluable guide to the literature in this field. Each chapter contains useful exercises. Graduate students, researchers and practitioners working in this area will benefit from this book. Weizhang Huang is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kansas. Robert D. Russell is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University.

Mesh Generation And Adaptation written by Rubén Sevilla and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-18 with Mathematics categories.
The developments in mesh generation are usually driven by the needs of new applications and/or novel algorithms. The last decade has seen a renewed interest in mesh generation and adaptation by the computational engineering community, due to the challenges introduced by complex industrial problems.Another common challenge is the need to handle complex geometries. Nowadays, it is becoming obvious that geometry should be persistent throughout the whole simulation process. Several methodologies that can carry the geometric information throughout the simulation stage are available, but due to the novelty of these methods, the generation of suitable meshes for these techniques is still the main obstacle for the industrial uptake of this technology. This book will cover different aspects of mesh generation and adaptation, with particular emphasis on cutting-edge mesh generation techniques for advanced discretisation methods and complex geometries.

Ocean Modeling In An Eddying Regime written by Matthew W. Hecht and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-30 with Science categories.
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 177. This monograph is the first to survey progress in realistic simulation in a strongly eddying regime made possible by recent increases in computational capability. Its contributors comprise the leading researchers in this important and constantly evolving field. Divided into three parts Oceanographic Processes and Regimes: Fundamental Questions Ocean Dynamics and State: From Regional to Global Scale, and Modeling at the Mesoscale: State of the Art and Future Directions The volume details important advances in physical oceanography based on eddy resolving ocean modeling. It captures the state of the art and discusses issues that ocean modelers must consider in order to effectively contribute to advancing current knowledge, from subtleties of the underlying fluid dynamical equations to meaningful comparison with oceanographic observations and leading-edge model development. It summarizes many of the important results which have emerged from ocean modeling in an eddying regime, for those interested broadly in the physical science. More technical topics are intended to address the concerns of those actively working in the field.
