The general Method of Lines (MOL) procedure provides a flexible format for the solution of all the major classes of partial differential equations (PDEs) and is particularly well suited to evolutionary, nonlinear wave PDEs. Despite its utility, however, there are relatively few texts that explore it at a more advanced level and reflect the method's

Topics contained in this volume include the reliability of computations; a posteriori error estimation; adaptive h-, p-, and r-refinement; method of lines and local refinement methods for time-dependent problems; parallel solution techniques; and applications of adaptive methods to problems in elasticity, fluid mechanics, and combustion. Issues of reliability, presented in the contributions by Babuska and Szabo', note the importance of specifying computational accuracy in relation to the idealizations of the mathematical model. Thus, one should envision a sequence of computations where the enhancements and refinements are added to the physical mode as the computational procedure is enriched. These ideas are a relatively new and important innovation in the field. The contributions of Berger and Hassanzadeh et al. discuss parallel adaptive procedures, which is another aspect of the field that has emerged since the early conferences and workshops. (KR).

Adaptive Numerical Solution Of Pdes written by Peter Deuflhard and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-31 with Mathematics categories.

This book deals with the general topic “Numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs)” with a focus on adaptivity of discretizations in space and time. By and large, introductory textbooks like “Numerical Analysis in Modern Scientific Computing” by Deuflhard and Hohmann should suffice as a prerequisite. The emphasis lies on elliptic and parabolic systems. Hyperbolic conservation laws are treated only on an elementary level excluding turbulence. Numerical Analysis is clearly understood as part of Scientific Computing. The focus is on the efficiency of algorithms, i.e. speed, reliability, and robustness, which directly leads to the concept of adaptivity in algorithms. The theoretical derivation and analysis is kept as elementary as possible. Nevertheless required somewhat more sophisticated mathematical theory is summarized in comprehensive form in an appendix. Complex relations are explained by numerous figures and illustrating examples. Non-trivial problems from regenerative energy, nanotechnology, surgery, and physiology are inserted. The text will appeal to graduate students and researchers on the job in mathematics, science, and technology. Conceptually, it has been written as a textbook including exercises and a software list, but at the same time it should be well-suited for self-study.

This is the first book on the numerical method of lines, a relatively new method for solving partial differential equations. The Numerical Method of Lines is also the first book to accommodate all major classes of partial differential equations. This is essentially an applications book for computer scientists. The author will separately offer a disk of FORTRAN 77 programs with 250 specific applications, ranging from "Shuttle Launch Simulation" to "Temperature Control of a Nuclear Fuel Rod."

Rosenbrock Wanner Type Methods written by Tim Jax and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-24 with Mathematics categories.

This book discusses the development of the Rosenbrock—Wanner methods from the origins of the idea to current research with the stable and efficient numerical solution and differential-algebraic systems of equations, still in focus. The reader gets a comprehensive insight into the classical methods as well as into the development and properties of novel W-methods, two-step and exponential Rosenbrock methods. In addition, descriptive applications from the fields of water and hydrogen network simulation and visual computing are presented.

This book contains papers presented at the 11th Symposium of Computer Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE-11), held in Kolding, Denmark, from May 27-30, 2001. The objective of ESCAPE-11 is to highlight the use of computers and information technology tools, that is, the traditional CAPE topics as well as the new CAPE topics of current and future interests. The main theme for ESCAPE-11 is process and tools integration with emphasis on hybrid processing, cleaner and efficient technologies (process integration), computer aided systems for modelling, design, synthesis, control (tools integration) and industrial case studies (application of integrated strategies). The papers are arranged in terms of the following themes: computer aided control/operations, computer aided manufacturing, process and tools integration, and new frontiers in CAPE. A total of 188 papers, consisting of 5 keynote and 183 contributed papers are included in this book.

Ordinary differential equations (ODEs), differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) are among the forms of mathematics most widely used in science and engineering. Each of these equation types is a focal point for international collaboration and research. This book contains papers by recognized numerical analysts who have made important contributions to the solution of differential systems in the context of realistic applications, and who now report the latest results of their work in numerical methods and software for ODEs/DAEs/PDEs. The papers address parallelization and vectorization of numerical methods, the numerical solution of ODEs/DAEs/PDEs, and the use of these numerical methods in realistic scientific and engineering applications.
