This book introduces several powerful techniques and fundamental ideas involving block matrices of operators, as well as matrices with elements in a C*-algebra. These techniques allow for the solution of problems that may be difficult to treat. Specifically, 2×2 operator matrices yield significant mathematical inequalities in various fields of operator theory and matrix analysis. The authors employ block matrices to simplify complicated problems. Operator matrices have garnered attention for their applications in quantum information and computing theories. Each chapter concludes with a diverse set of exercises and problems for readers, along with references to relevant literature. Some problems pose open questions, while others challenge readers and provide suggestions for future research. This book is suitable for an advanced undergraduate or graduate course and can be used in the classroom. It also serves as a valuable resource for researchers and students in mathematics and physics who have a basic understanding of linear algebra, functional analysis, and operator theory.

Spectral Theory Of Block Operator Matrices And Applications written by Christiane Tretter and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Science categories.

This book presents new concepts in operator theory and covers classes of operators (in particular, non-selfadjoint operators) which exhibit various interesting phenomena. Special attention is paid to applications in many areas of mathematical physics, including quantum mechanics, fluid mechanics, and magnetohydrodynamics. The author also discusses an operator theoretic approach to spectral problems for linear operators admitting a certain block structure. The results apply to bounded or finite-dimensional operators like block matrices as well to unbounded operators describing systems of differential equations. New concepts of numerical range are developed.

Polynomial And Matrix Computations written by Dario Bini and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

Our Subjects and Objectives. This book is about algebraic and symbolic computation and numerical computing (with matrices and polynomials). It greatly extends the study of these topics presented in the celebrated books of the seventies, [AHU] and [BM] (these topics have been under-represented in [CLR], which is a highly successful extension and updating of [AHU] otherwise). Compared to [AHU] and [BM] our volume adds extensive material on parallel com putations with general matrices and polynomials, on the bit-complexity of arithmetic computations (including some recent techniques of data compres sion and the study of numerical approximation properties of polynomial and matrix algorithms), and on computations with Toeplitz matrices and other dense structured matrices. The latter subject should attract people working in numerous areas of application (in particular, coding, signal processing, control, algebraic computing and partial differential equations). The au thors' teaching experience at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and at the University of Pisa suggests that the book may serve as a text for advanced graduate students in mathematics and computer science who have some knowledge of algorithm design and wish to enter the exciting area of algebraic and numerical computing. The potential readership may also include algorithm and software designers and researchers specializing in the design and analysis of algorithms, computational complexity, alge braic and symbolic computing, and numerical computation.

Finite Sections Of Band Dominated Operators written by Steffen Roch and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Mathematics categories.

The goal of this text is to review recent advances and to present new results in the numerical analysis of the finite sections method for general band and band-dominated operators. The main topics are the stability of the finite sections method and the asymptotic behavior of singular values. The latter topic is closely related with compactness and Fredholm properties of approximation sequences, and the paper can also serve as an introduction into this remarkable field of numerical analysis. Further the author discusses the behavior of approximation numbers, determinants, essential spectra and essential pseudospectra as well as the localization of pseudomodes of finite sections of band-dominated operators.

Numerical Methods For Structured Markov Chains written by Dario A. Bini and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-02-03 with Mathematics categories.

Intersecting two large research areas - numerical analysis and applied probability/queuing theory - this book is a self-contained introduction to the numerical solution of structured Markov chains, which have a wide applicability in queuing theory and stochastic modeling and include M/G/1 and GI/M/1-type Markov chain, quasi-birth-death processes, non-skip free queues and tree-like stochastic processes. Written for applied probabilists and numerical analysts, but accessible to engineers and scientists working on telecommunications and evaluation of computer systems performances, it provides a systematic treatment of the theory and algorithms for important families of structured Markov chains and a thorough overview of the current literature. The book, consisting of nine Chapters, is presented in three parts. Part 1 covers a basic description of the fundamental concepts related to Markov chains, a systematic treatment of the structure matrix tools, including finite Toeplitz matrices, displacement operators, FFT, and the infinite block Toeplitz matrices, their relationship with matrix power series and the fundamental problems of solving matrix equations and computing canonical factorizations. Part 2 deals with the description and analysis of structure Markov chains and includes M/G/1, quasi-birth-death processes, non-skip-free queues and tree-like processes. Part 3 covers solution algorithms where new convergence and applicability results are proved. Each chapter ends with bibliographic notes for further reading, and the book ends with an appendix collecting the main general concepts and results used in the book, a list of the main annotations and algorithms used in the book, and an extensive index.
