At Copenhagen in June 1988, the 80th Anniversary of the birth of L D Landau, the much respected Soviet physicist and author of the Course on Theoretical Physics, published by Pergamon Press, was celebrated with an International Symposium in his honour. The papers presented at that meeting are published here, providing an overview of recent progress in theoretical physics, covering super-string theories, chaos, high Tc superconductivity and biomolecules.

The conference "Advances in Theoretical Physics", held in Chernogolovka, Russia, is devoted to Lev Landau's 100 year anniversary. It was organized by the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, which was established by Landau's pupils who carried on his traditions. The conference reviews current progress in the main branches of theoretical physics. The talks covered solid state physics and cosmology, low temperature physics and optics, quantum field theory and statistical physics, physics of low-dimensional systems and hydrodynamics.

Not Even Wrong written by Peter Woit and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-31 with Science categories.

Not Even Wrong is a fascinating exploration of our attempts to come to grips with perhaps the most intellectually demanding puzzle of all: how does the universe work at its most fundamnetal level? The book begins with an historical survey of the experimental and theoretical developments that led to the creation of the phenomenally successful 'Standard Model' of particle physics around 1975. Despite its successes, the Standard Model does not answer all the key questions and physicists continuing search for answers led to the development of superstring theory. However, after twenty years, superstring theory has failed to advance beyond the Standard Model. The absence of experimental evidence is at the core of this controversial situation which means that it is impossible to prove that superstring theory is either right or wrong. To date, only the arguments of the theory's advocates have received much publicity. Not Even Wrong provides readers with another side of the story.

Geometric Phases In Physics written by Frank Wilczek and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Science categories.

During the last few years, considerable interest has been focused on the phase that waves accumulate when the equations governing the waves vary slowly. The recent flurry of activity was set off by a paper by Michael Berry, where it was found that the adiabatic evolution of energy eigenfunctions in quantum mechanics contains a phase of geometric origin (now known as ?Berry's phase?) in addition to the usual dynamical phase derived from Schr”dinger's equation. This observation, though basically elementary, seems to be quite profound. Phases with similar mathematical origins have been identified and found to be important in a startling variety of physical contexts, ranging from nuclear magnetic resonance and low-Reynolds number hydrodynamics to quantum field theory. This volume is a collection of original papers and reprints, with commentary, on the subject.

Advances In Fractional Calculus written by J. Sabatier and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-07-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

In the last two decades, fractional (or non integer) differentiation has played a very important role in various fields such as mechanics, electricity, chemistry, biology, economics, control theory and signal and image processing. For example, in the last three fields, some important considerations such as modelling, curve fitting, filtering, pattern recognition, edge detection, identification, stability, controllability, observability and robustness are now linked to long-range dependence phenomena. Similar progress has been made in other fields listed here. The scope of the book is thus to present the state of the art in the study of fractional systems and the application of fractional differentiation. As this volume covers recent applications of fractional calculus, it will be of interest to engineers, scientists, and applied mathematicians.
