A vivid exploration of working with autistic children using empowering techniques from a range of creative therapies. Each chapter in this heartening book is the story of a child with autism and how therapy was pivotal in confronting his or her individual dilemma. Covering many of the behaviours characteristic to autism, such as uncontrolled anger and obsessive tendencies, the therapies used range from drawing and dancing to meditation and martial arts, depending on the needs and interests of each child. The key message is that investing in the relationship between the therapist and the child - so that they grow, play and develop together - is transformative.

Not Even Wrong written by Paul Collins and has been published by Bloomsbury USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-04-03 with Psychology categories.

When Paul Collins's son Morgan was two years old, he could read, spell, and perform multiplication tables in his head...but not answer to his own name. A casual conversation-or any social interaction that the rest of us take for granted-will, for Morgan, always be a cryptogram that must be painstakingly decoded. He lives in a world of his own: an autistic world. In Not Even Wrong, Paul Collins melds a memoir of his son's autism with a journey into this realm of permanent outsiders. Examining forgotten geniuses and obscure medical archives, Collins's travels take him from an English churchyard to the Seattle labs of Microsoft, and from a Wisconsin prison cell block to the streets of Vienna. It is a story that reaches from a lonely clearing in the Black Forest into the London palace of King George I, from Defoe and Swift to the discovery of evolution; from the modern dawn of the computer revolution to, in the end, the author's own household. Not Even Wrong is a haunting journey into the borderlands of neurology - a meditation on what "normal" is, and how human genius comes to us in strange and wondrous forms.

Amanda & Adam's Autistic Adventures is the first in a three-part series. Written in a child's story book style, her book series is designed for all-aged readers. This book is a 'road map' for people with children who live on the spectrum, that may have more question marks than answers for their daily lives. Perumal shares the heartaches, joys, struggles and triumphs of day to day life, living with her twins who dealt with extreme autism - each in their own, very different, unique way. As a young mother, she blazed her own trail, heavily utilizing the creative works of the Disney movies and music. Perumal dug deep and retrieved her children from their 'Faraway Land' with these songs, stories, repetition, and love. K Renee now speaks and writes in support of those who live on the Spectrum, and the people who love them. COMING In October 2020, please join her for weekly, virtual 'live chats' and ask her about Your situation for her 'motherly' guidance. I look at Dabney's amazing book as an abbreviated version of the first 15 years of Lee's life. She has volumes of stories to tell and 100s of cartoons. Sifting through all her work was difficult to choose which picture and story was more important than another. As Dabney's parents, Jimmy and I have mourned the fact Dabney never had a normal childhood. I guess we did something right. She never thought her life was different than others and made the best with what she had. Lee thrived at Benedictine for seven wonderful years. They gave him support educationally as well as teaching him life skills. The school got us through the rocky years of adolescence. We learned he could survive in a residential placement and we could grow as a family. Funding was provided up to his 22nd birthday. After graduation Lee returned home. Lutheran Family Services is helping us now. We technically are running a group home for one in our own home. Lee is our only client. This is just the beginning for Dabney's creative writing. I'm looking forward to the next edition. Of course, I'm her "number one" biggest fan. Love always, Mom
