Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel by Mark Twain, first published in the United Kingdom in December 1884 and in the United States in February 1885. Commonly named among the Great American Novels, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written throughout in vernacular English, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, a friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). It is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' are widely regarded as classic works of American literature. 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' follows the mischievous young boy Tom Sawyer as he navigates the challenges of boyhood in the antebellum South, showcasing Twain's skillful use of satire and humor. In contrast, 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' delves into deeper themes of morality and freedom as Huck Finn and the runaway slave Jim embark on a journey down the Mississippi River, tackling issues of racism and society. Twain's distinctive literary style is characterized by his keen observations of human nature and his ability to convey complex ideas in a straightforward manner. Mark Twain, a pseudonym for Samuel Clemens, drew inspiration for his novels from his own experiences growing up in Missouri and working as a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River. His wit and keen observations of society allowed him to critique the societal norms of his time, making his work both entertaining and thought-provoking. I recommend Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' to readers who appreciate timeless coming-of-age stories with social commentary. Twain's masterful storytelling and engaging characters continue to captivate audiences today, making these novels essential reads for anyone interested in American literature.

This coming-of-age story captures a vanished world of outdoor action and introduces Mark Twain’s two most enduring literary characters, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. In a novel that Twain termed a “hymn to boyhood,” Tom and Huck fish and swim in the Mississippi River, search for buried treasure, and hide in a haunted house. Tom Sawyer falls for pretty Becky Thatcher, tricks his pals into painting a fence for him, and stages an elaborate prank on the schoolmaster. Around the edges of this idyllic boy-life, however, loom dangerous events in the fictional village of St. Petersburg: Tom and Huck witness a midnight murder in a graveyard, the killer escapes from the courtroom while Tom is testifying, Tom and Becky become lost in a labyrinthine cave, and two sinister villains plot robbery and revenge against a wealthy widow. This Original Text Edition faithfully follows the wording of the first edition, and the editor supplies a historical and literary introduction as well as a guide to Twain’s satirical targets

Huckleberry Finn runs away from the abuse of his alcoholic father. He immediately befriends a runaway slave named Jim, who is escaping the abuse of his owners. The two set out on a journey that involves theft, murder, and revenge. Along the way, Huckleberry Finn encounters Tom Sawyer, and the two hatch a plan to save Jim from a lifetime of slavery. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is often named among the great American novels. Mark Twain Highlights the immoral act of slavery by placing both Huckleberry and Jim in similar circumstances. Helping an escaped slave is in direct conflict with Huckleberry's upbringing in Missouri, but he makes a moral choice based on his valuation of friendship and human worth. This edition includes 174 illustrations by E. W. Kemble.

Mark Twain created the classic characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn drawing from the experiences of boys he grew up with in Missouri. Set on the Mississippi River in the 1840's, it follows two boys as they get many predicaments. Tom's classic whitewashing of the fence has become part of American folklore, and the book paints a sentimental picture of life in the middle of the nineteenth century. Tom runs away from home to an island in the river, chases Injun Joe and his treasure, and even gets trapped in a cave for days with Becky Thatcher. The book is one of Twain's most beloved stories.

Tom Sawyer lives with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother Sid. He dirties his clothes in a fight and is made to whitewash the fence the next day as punishment. He cleverly persuades his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work. He then trades the treasures for Sunday School tickets which one normally receives for memorizing verses, redeeming them for a Bible, much to the surprise and bewilderment of the superintendent who thought "it was simply preposterous that this boy had warehoused two thousand sheaves of Scriptural wisdom on his premises—a dozen would strain his capacity, without a doubt." Tom falls in love with Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town, and persuades her to get "engaged" by kissing him. But their romance collapses when she learns Tom has been "engaged" previously to Amy Lawrence. Shortly after Becky shuns him, he accompanies Huckleberry Finn to the graveyard at night, where they witness a trio of graverobbers, Dr. Robinson, Muff Potter and the halfbreed Injun Joe, getting into a fight. While Potter is knocked unconscious during the scuffle, Injun Joe stabs the doctor to death and later pins the blame on Potter, who is arrested and charged with murder. Tom and Huck run away to an island. While enjoying their new found freedom, they become aware that the community is sounding the river for their bodies. Tom sneaks back home one night to observe the commotion. After a brief moment of remorse at his loved ones' suffering, he is struck by the idea of appearing at his own funeral. Back in school, Tom gets himself back in Becky's favor after he nobly accepts the blame for a book she has ripped. Soon, Muff Potter's trial begins, in which Tom testifies against Injun Joe. Potter is acquitted, but Injun Joe flees the courtroom through a window. Tom then fears for his life as Injun Joe is at large and can easily find him....
