This book is the omega of volume 1 titled Why Leaders Fail and Plunge the Innocent into a Sea of Agonies; hence, its justified designation as volume 2. Its purpose is to complete the marathon research expedition commenced by volume 1 (alfa) to search for the mysteries surrounding and being responsible for man's chronic failure in the art of leadership, which has consequently always plunged the innocent under a failed leader into a sea of various acute agonies throughout all generations. In this regard, this volume is an etiology and prognosis of leadership failure epidemic that has evaded recognition of every past research effort to unlock and paralyze those mysteries responsible for its existence. Using this double-edged methodology and burning ambition, the volume systematically and vigorously synthesizes the root causes of this virus into a coherent body of knowledge that has, in the end, led to formulation of a leadership genetic engineering formula viz: elite and grass root conflict vaccination, able to provide humanity with an enabling environment of a hybrid culture requisite for good governance, democracy, and prosperity for all. This formula is a function of the discovery of a similar formula formulated and used by the ancient Egyptian people (7000-5000 BC), which enabled them to develop into an extraordinary hybrid culture and good leadership that, in turn, led them into a nation of immense prosperity, surpassing all other nations of their generation in Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. Hence, the unique significance of the research efforts contained in this volume 2 in its capacity as a long-lived breakthrough for social sciences--and political science, in particular--against the scourge of bad leadership to humanity. And hence, its justification as an omega of this marathon research expedition.

This publication includes the first English translation of the 1310 biography of Hasan-i-Sabah by Rashid al-Din: The Biography of Our Master (Sar-Guzasht-i-Sayyidna) Hasan-i-Sabah was born in northern Persia around 1050 and died in 1124. He was an Ismaili missionary (or dai) who founded the Nizari Ismailis after the usurpation of the Fatimid Imamate by the military dictator of Egypt. It may be said that Hasan founded and operated the world’s most successful mystical secret society, while building a political territory in which to maintain his independence. The small empire he created would be home to him, his followers, and their descendants for 166 years. Today, under the leadership of the Aga Khan, the Nizari Ismailis are one of the preeminent Muslim sects in the world, numbering some twenty million members in twenty-five countries. The medieval Nizaris were also known as Assassins or Hashishim. They became embedded in European consciousness because of their contact with the Knights Templar, and other Crusaders and visitors to the Near East. Several Europeans reported back with strange (and largely false) tales of the Assassins. In the fourteenth century, they were widely popularized by the famed Venetian traveler and writer Marco Polo in The Travels of Marco Polo. He added a whole new level of myth in his account of the sect (included in this volume along with extensive commentary). Of greatest interest is the idea that the Assassins were the spiritual initiators of the Knights Templar. If this is true, Hasan-i-Sabah would be in part responsible for the European Renaissance that would reclaim the spiritual centrality of the Hermetic writings and the Gnostic/Esoteric trends that continue to this day. Essential reading for an understanding of modern esoteric secret societies and today’s headlines coming from the Middle East. Includes 9 maps.

Until the 1960s, little was known inside or outside Iran about the tribes living in the country. The anthropological research of Erika Friedl is now renowned for presenting comprehensive data collected over a 50-year period from her time among the Boir Ahmad tribal people living in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. In this new book, Friedl turns her attention to the subject of religion, which she had only touched upon in her previous work. About ninety percent of people in Iran and nearly everybody in Boir Ahmad are Muslims of the Twelver Shia group. However, studies of tribal people's religiosity, beliefs and rituals are scarce, and many researchers have discounted their views and experience, regarding the tribes as only “nominally religious” because their practices do not fit in with the mainstream practices and ideas in Iran. Religion and Daily Life in the Mountains of Iran corrects this view and provides a hallmark study of tribal people's religiosity. Demonstrating the great diversity of their philosophical and religious ideas, the book reveals the ways in which the tribes choose and express their religion, define their communities and understand their world. From conversations about God and his relationships with people, to observations on ageing and death, and research into the tribe's use of spells, amulets and sacrifices, to their beliefs about saints, health and well-being, the book is an original ethnographic exploration of religion and daily life.
