The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of launching a vehicle based on the Boeing AirLaunch System in a coplanar, direct to rendezvous trajectory with gravity-turn. The focus of the research was to model the launch trajectory and determine the ability to reach different coplanar orbits. The launch trajectory was modeled using two-dimensional equations of motion and a boundary value problem was posed and solved for the gravity-turn trajectory. Trajectories were then created in an attempt to reach different altitudes through coasting and transfer orbits. Finally a specific orbital altitude was chosen and the trajectories were analyzed to find the most efficient route to the target orbit for fuel and time.

A program was conducted in which the response and failure characteristics of solid propellant rocket motors when subjected to transient thermal conditions representing air launch operational environments were recorded and analyzed. Future Air Force mission profiles were used. The Maverick motor, AGM-65A, was used as a test bed on the program.

A conceptual design is presented for a carrier vehicle for an air launched space booster. This airplane is capable of carrying a 500,000 pound satellite launch system to an altitude over 40,000 feet for launch. The airplane features a twin fuselage configuration for improved payload and landing gear integration, a high aspect ratio wing for maneuverability at altitude, and is powered by six General Electric GE-90 engines. The analysis methods used and the systems employed in the airplane are discussed. Launch costs are expected to be competitive with existing launch systems. The V 1, or Doodlebug or Flying-bomb came into use in June 1944 and, together with the V 2 Rocket, was Hitlers final hope in face of the advancing Allied forces sweeping across Europe towards Germany. Of the 8,000 that were launched within the first 80 days, some 2,300 reached the London area where they caused more death and destruction to its population and buildings. As the front line moved eastwards, many of the ground-based launch ramps became denied to the German forces and the modest range of the missile meant that other means of launching must be considered to continue the threat. An air-launching system, utilizing the Luftwaffes Heinkel 111 bomber, was developed and operated by the newly formed Kampfgeschwader units. This posed a dramatic new threat to the UK because the V 1s effective range was considerably increased and its mobile firing point offered a much greater target area when fired from an aircraft flying over the North Sea. This is the story of the development and operation of this new form of attack and also of the Allied reaction and defense-measures taken to minimize damage.

Pursuant to the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), Executive Order 12114, Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Regulations 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 1500-1508, and 32 CFR Part 989, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has conducted an assessment of the potential environmental consequences of the Long Range Air Launch Target (LRALT) System Development and Demonstration Tests. The purpose of the Proposed Action is to develop and demonstrate (through a flight test) an air launch target missile system that provides a realistic threat simulation for testing long-range ballistic missile defense systems. The LRALT System is needed to provide enhanced flexibility and capability to the Department of Defense (DOD) ballistic missile defense test programs and ranges. The LRALT System Program would extend the air launch target capability provided by the current Short Range Air Launch Target (SRALT) from approximately 373 miles (600 kilometers) up to about 1,553 miles (2,500 kilometers) while providing widely varied launch azimuths, limited set-up time, and minimal use of launch facility infrastructure.
