While there are a multitude of publications on corporate finance and financial management, only a few address the complexity of air transport industry finance and scant attention has been given to airport financial management. This book deals exclusively with airport issues to rectify this. It does this with an analysis of the theoretical concepts relevant to the subject area combined with a detailed investigation of current practice within the industry. Airport Finance and Investment in the Global Economy bridges the gap between much academic research on airports published in recent years – lacking much managerial relevance – and real-world airport financial management. This is achieved by featuring expert analysis of contemporary issues specific to airport finance and funding strategies, illustrated by worked examples from a wide range of different countries to enhance understanding and create a global perspective. The book is designed to appeal to both practitioners and academics. Airport-specific topics include: performance measurement and benchmarking, valuation, tools for financial control and management, alternatives of financing, privatisation, competition and implications of economic regulation.

Updated case studies from emerging economies such as China, India, and Brazil. Accessible and up-to-date, Managing Airports is ideal for students, lecturers and researchers of transport and tourism, and practitioners within the air transport industry.

Airport Finance written by Norman Ashford and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-08-06 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

This book was written as an introductory text discussing the basic elements of airport finance. The material presented and the matters discussed are drawn from an international scene, reflecting the international nature of aviation and the need for those involved in the airport industry to understand the structure of airport finance in this context. The authors have selected the content based on their joint knowledge of airport administration and postexperience aviation training. The draft manuscript was used as a teaching text at the airport finance course at Loughborough University in May 1990 with twenty-four postgradu ate/postexperience participants. Based on that experience and comments from a number of readers and reviewers, the final form of the text is that presented here. Chapter 1 deals generally with the patterns of airport ownership on a world wide basis and describes the sources of revenues and expenditures, the manner in which they are reported, and the form in which airport accounts are re ported. Because systems and practices vary among countries, the material is presented on a comparative basis. In Chapter 2, Harry Kluckhohn describes the manner in which U.S. airports are financed. Not only will this be of interest to U.S. readers, but it will serve as a useful guide for others who may have little knowledge of how this highly developed financing system works.

Aviation Investment uniquely addresses investment appraisal methods across the key industries that make up the aviation sector, including the airports, air traffic management, airline and aircraft manufacturing - or aeronautic - industries. It is a practice-oriented book where methods are presented through realistic case studies. The emphasis is on economic appraisal, or cost-benefit analysis, in order to determine the viability of projects not only for private investors but for society as a whole. Financial (cash flow) appraisal is illustrated alongside economic appraisal, as the latter builds on the former, but also to show how economic appraisal enhances standard financial appraisal to determine the long-term sustainability of any investment. Aviation is a capital-intensive sector that is growing rapidly, with world traffic expected to double over the next 15 years or so. A great deal of economic appraisal of investment projects takes place already, as aviation is subject to government intervention through economic regulation and financial support, and as both investors and policy makers seek to understand issues such as how environmental legislation may impact the viability of investments. Both economic growth and welfare go hand in hand with sound investment decisions, particularly regarding sectors such as aviation where investments are large and almost invariably debt-financed. Aviation Investment offers all aviation sub-sectors a single-source reference, bringing together the theoretical background of the economic appraisal literature and aviation investment in practice. It is written in a style that is accessible to non-academic professionals, using formulae only where strictly necessary to enable practical applications, and benefits from the substantial practical experience of the author.

This book looks closely at the findings, contributions and recommendations on key issues concerning the concomitant subjects of the large and complex physical infrastructural provision like the seaport and the airport. Chapter 1 examines the seaports, where ships, cargoes, cranes, forklifts and storage yards, warehouses, lorries, roads and rail lines abound. Cargo handling needs specialist knowledge of the understanding supply chain management (SCM), and of the global integrated logistics hub, i.e. global gateway. Chapter 2 highlights that the growth of developing countries depends on adequate physical infrastructure to support economic development. The Chapter examines the merits of viable seaport infrastructure investment, of requiring large capital expenditure, long payback period and of structuring a defensible risk management strategy to deal with uncertainties. Singapore’s Jurong Port is the case study. Chapter 3 is concerned with the growth of developing countries ., which depends very much on having adequate physical infrastructure to support economic development. As a strategic response, many physical infrastructure investments like seaports are being privatised and highly purpose built. Merits of the viable, long term, seaport investment, and of structuring a defensible risk management strategy are essential to deal with uncertainties. Singapore’s Jurong Port is the case study. Chapter 4 is concerned with the global outreach of the small island state of Singapore’s seaport operation, owing to its chronic and limited land and small population size. To overcome limiting growth prospects, it is essential to grow and sustain the global outreach of the Port of Singapore. Last but not least, Chapter 5 recognizes that for public physical infrastructure developments like Singapore’s global Changi Airport, public funding is also a form of investment that entails uncertainties, which need to be rigorously evaluated with financial modelling on the risks and returns. Even more so for crucial seaport expansion and for developing a larger strategic objective for the long-term, well-being of the nation. Changi Airport is a key pillar of strength to support the growth of Singapore’s trade-oriented market economy.
