Albert Einstein, a Nobel laureate, has changed the world with his research and theories. He is regarded as the founder of modern physics. Besides ‘Relativity’, he worked on Photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, Special relativity, and Mass-Energy equivalence (E=mc2). They reformed the views on time, space and matter. Allert Einstein developed the general theory of ‘Relativity’. He published ‘Relativity: The Special and the General Theory’ in German. Its first English translation was published in 1920. The book deals with the special theory of relativity, the general theory of relativity, and the considerations on the universe as a whole The book gives an exact insight into the theory of Relativity. It covers, the system of Co-ordinates; The Lorentz Transformation; The experiment of Fizeau; Minkowski’s four dimensional space; The Gravitational Field; Gaussian Co-ordinates; The structure of space, and lot many other scientific concepts thus will be highly beneficial to the Readers. What is the Principle of Relativity? This short article is one of the very first scientific essays written by Einstein intended for the general, non-scientist, audience. It was originally written, in 1914, for the readers of one of the most widely-read newspapers in Germany at the time. Einstein published his two seminal papers on special relativity in 1905, and his work was gradually being recognized. In 1913, Max Planck and Walther Nernst made a trip to Zurich, where Einstein had been mostly living throughout his young adult life, to recruit Einstein (back) to Germany, which he agreed to. It was a triumphant return for Einstein. This article was published to celebrate this occasion, and his newly-earned prestige. Special relativity is based on the special principle of relativity, or simply the principle of relativity. This short newspaper article (~5 pages) explains what the principle of relativity is, at a very high level, and what kind of general interesting phenomena are predicted from the theory. The predictions of special relativity have all been confirmed, without exceptions. As for general relativity, he ended up completing his field equations of gravity at the end of 1915, and this article briefly describes why the generalization was necessary. This article was originally written by Einstein in German, and it is now in the public domain. This short booklet attempts at a new translation to give a somewhat clearer account of what Einstein wanted to convey in his original writing. A completely new English translation - 2024!

As the book explains clearly, Einstein's dramatic papers of 1905 overthrew the Newtonian worldview and revolutionized our understanding of space, time, energy, matter, and light. His work had impact far beyond the field of physics, playing a leading role in the century's technological advances and influencing modernism in every field. Except for his last interview that was previously published, all the essays here are original works written especially for this book. The photographs draw on an exceptional archive Einstein bequeathed to Hebrew University in Jerusalem. --Provided by the publisher.

How better to learn the Special Theory of Relativity and the General Theory of Relativity than directly from their creator, Albert Einstein himself? In Relativity: The Special and the General Theory, Einstein describes the theories that made him famous, illuminating his case with numerous examples and a smattering of math (nothing more complex than high-school algebra). Einstein's book is not casual reading, but for those who appreciate his work without diving into the arcana of theoretical physics, Relativity will prove a stimulating read. "The present book is intended," Einstein wrote in 1916, "as far as possible, to give an exact insight into the theory of Relativity to those readers who, from a general scientific and philosophical point of view, are interested in the theory, but who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics."

First published in 1922 and based on lectures delivered in May 1921, Albert Einstein’s The Meaning of Relativity offered an overview and explanation of the then new and controversial theory of relativity. The work would go on to become a monumental classic, printed in numerous editions and translations worldwide. Now, The Formative Years of Relativity introduces Einstein’s masterpiece to new audiences. This beautiful volume contains Einstein’s insightful text, accompanied by important historical materials and commentary looking at the origins and development of general relativity. Hanoch Gutfreund and Jürgen Renn provide fresh, original perspectives, placing Einstein’s achievements into a broader context for all readers. In this book, Gutfreund and Renn tell the rich story behind the early reception, spread, and consequences of Einstein’s ideas during the formative years of general relativity in the late 1910s and 1920s. They show that relativity’s meaning changed radically throughout the nascent years of its development, and they describe in detail the transformation of Einstein’s work from the esoteric pursuit of one individual communicating with a handful of colleagues into the preoccupation of a growing community of physicists, astronomers, mathematicians, and philosophers. This handsome edition quotes extensively from Einstein’s correspondence and reproduces historical documents such as newspaper articles and letters. Inserts are featured in the main text giving concise explanations of basic concepts, and short biographical notes and photographs of some of Einstein’s contemporaries are included. The first-ever English translations of two of Einstein’s popular Princeton lectures are featured at the book’s end.

In the history of physics, there has been no greater visionary than Albert Einstein. Through his revolutionary Theory of Relativity, he changed the way we look at the universe. But there is more to Einstein than just E=mc[superscript 2]. "In addition to contributing to many branches of physical science," relates Gerald Holton, "he also published widely on social and philosophical issues. He challenged current philosophies, both of science and of the state. He waged a constant fight for individual liberty and dignity against persecution and war." Einstein's ideas and views continue to play a role in contemporary science and in the popular imagination. Now two distinguished editors have compiled an enlightening collection of important and penetrating essays that shed light on many fascinating aspects of this great man. The esteemed contributors cover both important milestones and lesser known facts to present a thoughtful portrait. Historical black-and-white photographs and color illustrations complete this engaging anthology. Book jacket.
