La Jaiba (il granchio), gobba e zoppa, che vive in un povero villaggio del Cile, si prende cura della smemorata Albina della quale esibisce le carni ponderose e pallidissime nel suo locale. Minacciate dal perfido poliziotto Pata di Lomo, le due donne fuggono lontano e si stabiliscono a Camina, villaggio fatato i cui abitanti destinati all’immortalità, hanno perso il gusto di vivere. Le esibizioni di Albina e gli intrugli della Jaiba scacciano la malinconia, e soprattutto salvano dal suicidio il nano Amado, che si mette subito al loro servizio.
