Che Guevara written by Jon Lee Anderson and has been published by Grove/Atlantic, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-20 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Acclaimed around the world and a national best-seller, this is the definitive work on Che Guevara, the dashing rebel whose epic dream was to end poverty and injustice in Latin America and the developing world through armed revolution. Jon Lee Anderson’s biography traces Che’s extraordinary life, from his comfortable Argentine upbringing to the battlefields of the Cuban revolution, from the halls of power in Castro’s government to his failed campaign in the Congo and assassination in the Bolivian jungle. Anderson has had unprecedented access to the personal archives maintained by Guevara’s widow and carefully guarded Cuban government documents. He has conducted extensive interviews with Che’s comrades—some of whom speak here for the first time—and with the CIA men and Bolivian officers who hunted him down. Anderson broke the story of where Guevara’s body was buried, which led to the exhumation and state burial of the bones. Many of the details of Che’s life have long been cloaked in secrecy and intrigue. Meticulously researched and full of exclusive information, Che Guevara illuminates as never before this mythic figure who embodied the high-water mark of revolutionary communism as a force in history.

Sor Lola, affectionately dubbed "the flying nun" by her family, left her family at the age of sixteen to enter a convent. Despite her parents' objections, she believed it was her destiny to help the poor and downtrodden even if it meant leaving her family behind and being alone for the rest of her life. When in the late 1960s, Lola is forced to leave Cuba, she had to accept that she might never see her family again. Throughout her life, Lola's faith and resolve to honor her vows of obedience and service to the poor are repeatedly tested. Despite her good intentions, Lola's penchant for action and overconfidence always ends up getting her into trouble. When Lola finds herself embroiled in a gun smuggling operation that nearly lands her in jail, her world comes shattering down. She feels deceived and abandoned by all. Her reputation is ruined. Amid the despair, she remembers her father's parting words to her, "Family is the most important thing in the world and no one wants to die alone." Had he been right? Had she been wrong to believe she could truly make a difference in the world? Was she destined to die alone with no one who cared for and loved her?

Cajun Literature And Cajun Collective Memory written by Mathilde Köstler and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-19 with Literary Criticism categories.

How does Cajun literature, emerging in the 1980s, represent the dynamic processes of remembering in Cajun culture? Known for its hybrid constitution and deeply ingrained oral traditions, Cajun culture provides an ideal testing ground for investigating the collective memory of a group. In particular, francophone and anglophone Cajun texts by such writers as Jean Arceneaux, Tim Gautreaux, Jeanne Castille, Zachary Richard, Ron Thibodeaux, Darrell Bourque, and Kirby Jambon reveal not only a shift from an oral to a written tradition. They also show hybrid perspectives on the Cajun collective memory. Based on recurring references to place, the texts also reflect on the (Acadian) past and reveal the innate ability of the Cajuns to adapt through repeated intertextual references. The Cajun collective memory is thus defined by a transnational outlook, a transversality cutting across various ethnic heritages to establish and legitimize a collective identity both amid the linguistic and cultural diversity in Louisiana, and in the face of American mainstream culture. Cajun Literature and Cajun Collective Memory represents the first analysis of the mnemonic strategies Cajun writers use to explore and sustain the Cajun identity and collective memory.

Remembering Che written by Aleida March and has been published by Seven Stories Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-07 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Che Guevara’s widow remembers a great revolutionary romance tragically cut short by Che’s assassination in Bolivia. When Aleida March first met Che Guevara, she was a twenty-year-old combatant from the provinces of Cuba, he an already legendary revolutionary and larger-than-life leader. And yet there was another, more human side to Che, one Aleida was given special access to, first as his trusted compañera and later as the love of his life. With great immediacy and poignancy, Aleida recounts the story of their epic romance—their fitful courtship against the backdrop of the Cuban revolutionary war, their marriage at the war’s end and the birth of their four children, up through Che’s tragic assassination in Bolivia less than ten years later. Featuring excerpts from their letters, nearly one hundred never-before-seen photographs from their private collection, and a moving short story Che wrote for Aleida, here is an intimate look at the man behind the legend and the tenacious, courageous woman who knew him best—a story of passionate love, wrenching sacrifice, and unwavering heroism.
